| I have an old Colt AR15 that has been in the safe a long time. Thinking about selling and investing in a newer and more accurate AR. It is a SP1 with no forward assist and no shell deflector. I have owned this rifle for about 30 yrs. and about 20 yrs since last shot. No gunshops around with much knowledge on AR pricing and would like a little help on pricing for sale. THANKS |

THANKS Straight from Blue Book online Common features of 1963-1989 mfg. AR-15s are bayonet lug, flash hider, large front takedown pin, no internal sear block, and w/o reinforcement around the magazine release button. AR-15 boxes during this period of mfg. had a green label with serial number affixed on a white sticker. Box is taped in two places with brown masking tape. NIB consists of the rifle with barrel stick down the barrel, plastic muzzle cap on flash hider, factory tag hanging from front sight post, rifle in plastic bag with ser. no. on white sticker attached to bag, cardboard insert, accessory bag with two 20 round mags., manual, sling, and cleaning brushes. Cleaning rods are in separate bag. Pre-ban parts rifles are rifles, which are not assembled in their proper factory configuration. Counterfeit pre-ban rifles are rifles using post-ban receivers and assembled into a pre-ban configuration (it is a felony to assemble or alter a post-ban rifle into a pre-ban configuration). Possession of an unstamped L.E. only rifles is a felony; they can be sold only to sworn law enforcement officers. Add $100 for NIB condition. Add $300 for early green label box models with reinforced lower receiver. At this point, it is obligatory for somebody to hugely lowball the price and hope that the OP will take the deal... My turn. I'll take that SP-1 off your hands for $250, sight unseen. Fair enough? Moon ETA Actually, there is some serious interest in retro ARs, including a forum on the subject here at Arfcom; you might want to look on that side of the house for more info. FWIW, I've seen pretty minty SP-1s at gunshows for about $1.5 K, and would have bought one had I not built an A1 replica already. Can't say that new ARs will be 'more accurate' than oldtimers, tho' the new ones often use more modern sights. Anyway, my $250 offer still stands.... M |
