I'm thinking about getting a Larue Tactical gas block or should I save some money and get a cheaper one?

Buy once cry once, go Larue IMHO

I would just get a cheaper one. Do you have a free float rail? If so it will be hidden anyways.

I'm eventualy going to get a LT 12" rail, and I'm not going for looks, I'm going for quality (for the gas block anyway)

Quality doesn't get much better than Larue.

True and I'm a die hard LT fan

LaRue is great stuff, but it’s a gas block… not a Bolt or Handguard or Scope Mount.

YHM micro block is a great choice for around $20…
It is small enough to fit under even the tightest rails and it doesn’t weigh a ton.

Normally I’m not a big fan of YHM, but I have used their micro gas block on numerous builds with zero issues. I would confidently suggest it to anyone.

I don't have any LT gas blocks, but I have build around 10 AR's and never had a problem w/ any of the gas blocks I used. I have a YHM Low pro. under my MK18 RISII and haven't had any problems. I like shaved a2 sights better, as you know your getting a solid fit. Buts this is just my opinion.

Do you have a pic of a shaved A2 sight? I was also considering this

I have pics of a FSB that I just cut down, tinypic and photobucket are blocked here at work. I'll try and find a way to post pics. If it had been a virgin barrel, then a low profile GB would be the way to go.

+1 on the YHM GBs I have one on a PDWgery that I'm building with a 7.5" bbl and MI FF HGs

Edit: Did I break teh forums?? I don't know WTF? happened but here is a better pic. Sorry for the confusion.

Using picasa to post pics for the first time, so bare with me.

This too is a good option if you are using an already pinned barrel…

I swear I posted a reply in this thread. Oh well, There are many quality low profile gas blocks out there, LaRue is one of them. Find a good deal on a quality gas block and go with it.

I'll just cut my FSB, assuming I can get it off the barrel

That's a very permanent solution.

Cheap! Always go cheaper, especially if your life depends on your equipment's performance.

You have a point… Should rephrase to inexpensive…
And just because something is inexpensive doesn’t mean it’s cheap.
