Hey all, I just had a quick question for you guys.
What are some of the most common conflicts you run into when configuring your quad-rail handguards? Such as: well i'd really like to add [equipment] but there's not enough space because of [equipment] could be conflicts between scopes, sights, lasers, or whatever tacticrap you all run on your rifles. im really curious about this! any answers are very appreciated. thanks! |
| what type of toys do you want to run. Do you want to keep the front sight or go with BUIS. What lenth are you looking at. If your in a ban state and you have a break then you need to think about removal of a rail and gas block. DD rails are great. Larue mounts are tops. |

Its really quite simple.
6 o'clock VFG or bi pod, 3 o'clock light 9 oclock nothing 12 o'clock scope, or carry handle, and any laser or IR illum goes on this rail. I run nothing on the 9 because I am right handed and the left side rail would be against my gear. YMMV There is nothing else to run really- never bridge the gap- |

The only tough decision I have ever had with a rail is choosing between Daniel Defense and LaRue. My next one will probably be LaRue, im running low on dillo dust. I was a little disappointed that my BCM upper with LaRue handguards didn't come with Dillo Dust. It did come with a BCM hat tho
Of course, all disappointment went straight out the window the first time I took it to the range. Sweet setup and accurate as hell (1-in-8 FTW). Currently the only things on the rails are a QD sling swivel and a AR-332 prism sight (temporary optic until the ACOG group buy goes through - didn't want to spend a ton of money on glass that will go on the shelf as soon as the ACOG arrives). I'll probably add a grippod later. I may or may not add a light, but it's not my go-to HD weapon, and unlike most mall ninjas I've come to terms with the reality that I won't be sweeping any houses and it doesn't make much sense to have a flash light on a medium range rifle. |

On a standard 7" rail it really is hard to mount multiple accessories and still have room to grab the forend. This is why VFGs and the Surefire VFG/light thing are so popular in the Military. A M951 Surefire will take up nearly the entire left or right side, A PAQ-4 or PEQ-2 will take up the entire top or a side, If the sling is mounted to the FSB then it might obstruct anything mounted on the left side, an M203 leaf sight prevents you from mounting anything on the top rail, etc.. As accessories get smaller (Insight M3X, PEQ-15, etc.) and handguards get longer (DD RIS II), this becomes less of a problem. Having an M203 let me grip the rifle like normal and still have room on the rails for accessories. The longer rails now give many more options on where to place items so that you can grip the rifle where you want to grip the rifle.
