....on November 1, 2008. Just received a UPS notice that I am scheduled for delivery April 12, 2010.
Have I set a record?

| Wow. What did you order that it took them 17 months to build? I have a CMMG upper from a couple years ago that I'm happy with, but after seeing how they basically ignore orders they didn't feel like filling in a timely fashion (for instance all the people who ordered LW barrels and had to wait ~12 months before CMMG got around to making them) I will never buy another product from them. |

Quoted:
I ordered a 20" Gov complete, and a 14.7" complete no upper December 28, 2008 Received the 14.7 Mar 16, 2009 Received the 20" May 12, 2009
I got a free bcg and charging handle edit: the sad part is, I probably wont ever order from them again It's nobody's fault but their own. There are companies out there who care about getting their customers what they ordered, and there are companies who don't seem to care at all. If companies that don't care lose business because of it, I don't shed a tear for them. |

Other than Spike's and BCM, I don't buy parts directly from the manufacturer (I know they only assemble parts, you know what I mean).
I have bought 3 CMMG uppers, been totally satisfied, but I bought from AIMSurplus so I knew I'd at least be happy with the purchasing part of the transaction. All of them now sport BCM charging handles and BCGs, been wonderful tools. |

I didn't cancel the order because I became curious after the first few months to see just how long this would drag out. And yeah, I am patient, I can afford to be. There are four other ARs in the safe, all of which I built myself. And no, it was not a special order. Just one of their 18" mid-lengths. Only variation from stock was the request that they use a YHM low profile gas block (which is one of their options, so that should not have been a big deal). In the last three years I have purchased lowers by CMMG, Rock River, Quentin Defense, Kaiser Defense, and POF. Every one was available the same day I ordered them. I built up all the lowers myself except the Rock River. I also bought stripped uppers by BC (two), Mega, and DPMS. Again, every one was available and in stock. This was at the worst of times, availability wise, and i never felt that I was gouged in any way. Then again, I am a determined deal hunter. The only parts I have ever had to wait on has been barrels and bolts/carriers. Anything else I have ever ordered (and I have ordered a fair amount over these last few years) has always been in stock. Frankly, I could even get barrels and bolts/carriers instantly if I wanted to settle for higher prices or second choice. So my observation has been that the deals were still out there if you either searched hard or waited for the right time. As I originally wrote, this was more a matter of curiousity. As to build quality, well that is a debate we don't need to get into here. Suffice to say that I have only owned eight ARs over the last 20+ years, and of those, only three had "manufacturer" assembled uppers. The rest were home-grown. I have only once purchased a pre-assembled lower, and that was the Rock River simply because a friend gave me a smokin' deal on one that had the two-stage trigger installed. In the case of this upper, I just wanted to see if the CMMG kool-aid was worth drinking. Personally I feel a fellow is better off building his own IF he has the time and tools to do it right. Then you get exactly what you want right off the bat. At least they still honored their original price. |

Damn OP, that just may be a record. Check the Del-Ton industry section. I think they have an official "one-year plus" thread started. As for CMMG catching up, maybe so. I recently ordered two barrels within a few weeks of each other and they were prompt when notifying me that it went into production and then soon after I had my shipping notice. Had to call to change one order and that went smooth too...
