I have been offered a buy on a High Standard ar new in the box, A2 sight optic ready.  Whats it worth, and is it a good product.

700-800 is what I would say.

Welcome to the forum by the way.  I guess everyone is asleep or just did not like the title of your thread.

High Standard makes really good looking ARs.  I have not had the money (or need) to buy a new one from them, but from all indications they're good to go.

High Standard has a long and illustrious history, and they have made some of the more interesting guns of the 20th century.  The current incarnation is apparently on track to continue that legacy.

I have a badass.22HS Pistol. Damn near the most fun to shoot firearm I have. It was built in '61.

We own two High Standard AR's.  They seem good to me, although the don't have some of the features that some on this website think are important like staked castle nuts.

Pros - upper and lower fit tight, no FTF of any kind after around 1000 rounds including soft point, held up fine in a course, you choose the barrel twist (1-7 or 1-9), the local PD where I am buy a lot of these and they have never had any problems with them, lifetime warranty (don't know if it is transferable),

Cons - some barrels come chrome lined, others don't; no M4 feed ramps, front sight is not the "F" marked one.

Also, the gas key isn't "properly" staked but it is staked just as securely as the "proper" ones.

I have only shot it out to 100 yds but I was getting decent sized groups with a free float hand guard I installed aftermarket.

Anything else you want to know?

I tried a search but didn't get any results.  Whats bad about the feed ramps and the nut being that way.

Nothing, really.  There is no "need" for M4 feedramps in ANY semi-auto gun, as they were a fix for feed problems with HIGH rate of fire M4A1s.  Not having your castle nut staked is only a problem if you ever notice it getting loose.  At which point you can tighten it again.  Or you can just decide to stake it yourself when you get the gun, as the task is mindlessly simple.

Also, I should say that one of my High Standard ARs had a forging blemish inside the trigger guard.  You can't see it unless you are looking for it, but other than that not a scratch or mark of any kind.  I am not CERTAIN on this, but I think it may have even been finished under the front sight.

I am married to a cop who's friends at work suggested High Standard ARs.  They aren't the most fancy ones out there, but they seem very well put together to me.

And I may have not been very clear about the chrome lined barrel - when they sell them to you, chrome lining is an option depending on what model you want.  They are manufactured in Houston, TX (but not sold in Houston that I am aware of) and are distributed in Baton Rouge, LA if I am not mistaken at Lipseys firearms, and probably other places as well.
