I am such a new guy to this, I hate to even ask but I have read on this forum until my head hurts so I thought I would give this a shot. I have a "new to me" ar-15 built with a stag lower and bushmaster upper with 16" barrel.
I have a cheap bushnell 3 x 9 on it. My plan is just playing at the range and maybe shooting a few coyotes on my dads farm so it will probably work for what I am wanting so what i really want to do is dress it up a little. I would like to go with the following accessories; 1. Quad rail These are priced all over the board. Any suggestions? 2. Stock (dark earth) Here is one of the problems. I see tons of different styles and mil spec, commerical and such. Which one do I need? 3. Bipod I'm assuming any one that will attach to a quad rail will work? 4. Forward grip (dark earth) ? Let me put it this way. Lets say you had my basic rifle and wanted to deck it out with some dark earth accessories. What would you get and where? Thanks for your time |

For the stock, I like the MOE from Magpul. Not expensive and works real well. So far as Mil-Spec or commercial, depends on what buffer tube you have. Probably commercial. Find out what Stag uses.
Quad rails in Dark Earth- not sure who makes them. You can always paint them. For less expensive and good quality, I like Midwest Industries. Never had a problem with both sets of mine. Magpul also make a set that a rail for a bipod can be attatched. Bipod-Harris. Welcome to the board. |
Welcome to the site. Check here http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=484241 for differences in buttstocks. Stag should be Mil-spec unless it was built up by individual who prefered comm. type stock.Check out some of the businesses at the header of the site page for some good deals on stocks etc. Also check EE and classified section for deals. Congrats on your new rifledon't forget to ot pics. |

Welcome aboard..check this picture thread out for some inspiration..
FDE Picture Thread ETA: Stocks:For stocks I would recommend Magpul ACS, LMT SOPMOD, or VLTOR EMOD for the type of shooting you'll be doing most. Those stocks IMO have some of the best cheek weld out of all the stocks I own. Bipod: For a bipod, it's hard to beat the Harris/Larue combo. I have this on 2 of my precision rigs and it's a quality set up. VFG: I have used Larue, Tango Down, and KAC. Out of all of them, I like the TD quick detach stubby the best. Rails: Daniel Defense, KAC, and Larue are some of the best out there but are on the higher end price wise. Troy, Midwest Industries, Sampson and also ones to consider.. |

I personally like LaRue, although my interest is piqued with the new ones that Spikes Tactical will be releasing soon. There are a lot of good ones out there but what you really have to figure out is whether you want a one piece, like the ones mentioned above (which would require removing your flash-hider, removing your front-sight-base, and replacing your barrel nut) or a two piece, like the DD Omega(using your existing delta ring with no modification other than taking off the existing hand-guards). You can check out some of the picture forums around the site to figure out what you like. I would make sure that whatever you buy has some sort of anti-rotation feature though to make sure that you don't rotate the rail and pinch your gas-tube inadvertently creating a bolt action AR. 2. Stock (dark earth) Here is one of the problems. I see tons of different styles and mil spec, commercial and such. Which one do I need? The above mentioned thread should help you figure out whether you have a commercial or mil-spec tube so that you can order the correct size stock. I like Magpul for stocks and grips but again there are quite a few good ones out there out there, check pic pages for ideas. Quoted:
3. Bipod I'm assuming any one that will attach to a quad rail will work? I don't know a lot about bi-pods as I have never used one but LaRue makes a quick-disconnect mount for them that would allow you to take it off easily when you don't want the added weight. Quoted:
4. Forward grip (dark earth) ? Again there are lots of good ones out there, the FUG from LaRue, the VFG from Spike's (more price friendly but you would have to paint it), Tango Down VFGs are popular. Quoted:
Let me put it this way. Lets say you had my basic rifle and wanted to deck it out with some dark earth accessories. What would you get and where? Thanks for your time I hope this was helpful to you. |
