OK so I hope to buy my first AR soon. I'm probally going to get a LMT in 5.56. My question is what kind of accuracy can I expect with the different options?
1- Standard 2- CQB MRP I called LMT and they said I could expect sub MOA with the MRP and 1.5" to 1.75" with the standard. Does this sound right? Does it make this much difference? I really don't care at all about the quick change barrell options... Thanks! |
| back when LMT was a flavor of the month, owners would comment regularly how accurate their rifle was. and, LMT's mike rock barrels have always had a good rep for accuracy. this was before the dreaded melonited gas keys, which of cousre completely ruined everything about these fine rifles. mine are both still excellent, one with and one without the cursed key. i've never scoped either , so can't exactly pinpoint accuracy but they do fine for range blasting. probably the one with chrome key would shoot m.o.a. with good ammo––-the other with the dreaded key apparently would do 12-24" at 25 yards––-or so they say,,,,if,, it will even shoot. ––––am i being tacky???yep!!!!!! |

Wow, for a minute there I actually thought you were serious I know what you mean, the couch commandos dislike the MIM carrier key, but ive brought one with an MIM carrier key through 4 carbine courses and no issues. To the OP: The reason the MRP will have more accuracy is because it's set up with a free float rail system.....I have bought standard LMT uppers and had MSTN attach a Knight's free float URX carbine rail and got the same accuracy as my MRP's. They are both more accurate than I am. So it's up to you what you want to do, either set up will be nice. The MRP lets you swap barrel lengths and calibers if you choose, so you might also want to take that into consideration. LMT's are work horses, it's probably my favorite AR company aside from Colt and Noveske. |

SWEET. I have a melonite treatment on my 1911. I love it. No rust issues at all. I think you mean Metal Injection Molding for the gas keys. |
| yes,, they are MIM,, then the black surface on them is a nitride coating instead of chrome.. from about all i can gather melonite [nitride process] is harder than a wood-peckers bill and some say harder than chrome. also from what i can gather if the MIM is done properly [as in airplane parts] it is very GTG.. i personally beleive in LMT's integrity and do not beleive they will sell sub-par parts just to save a dollar. actually,,,i'd worry more about riding in a jet at 35,000' with MIM parts in the motors than about a gas key breaking on me––-that i could easily replace. the guy in the failed plane is the dude with the problem.. |
