Hi all just signed up on the forums last night. Im the proud new owner of an AR15. I bought the S&W M&P15-22 back in December  but even though shooting the .22 is cheap it just wasnt enough bang for me.
So heres what I got. Being left handed and using a right handed gun I some times get brass bouncing off the range walls and going down the back of my shirt This is not fun lol so luckily i was about to find a left handed AR. I plan on putting a rail on the front soon as I can

Stag Arms left handed upper
DPMS lower
CAA stock
Barska 1x30 Acog style clone that I had on the 15-22 until i can get some thing better but its better than iron sights

Better then Iron sights?  That's debatable.  Otherwise, good looking first rifle, and welcome to the site!

Nice rifle.  I'd use my iron sights if I were you.  Shoot the crap out of it.

welcome aboard

Looks good.

Remove the facog and practice with the irons. Save your cash and get a real acog later.

(keep your eye on the EE, acogs come up all the time at great prices)

Welcome to the site!

I hoping my sarcasm meter is off or something, but that is completely false, IMO of course.

+1 to the Barska FACOG "not" being better than irons.

Really, as someone who is new to the platform, you need to master the irons FIRST and start worrying about optics later.

Nice rifle.  Welcome aboard.

Let me rephrase lol  I prefer the Optic to Iron sights  =p
I was acctualy looking at getting an Aimpoint later on or an Eotech some thing i could put a magnifier behind and remove when i wanted but they are expensive so I gotta save my lunch money  but the the barska will have to do until then.
Next time I go to the range I do plan on sighting in the iron sights

to the OP, congrats on your new rifle.  use your grain of salt when reading through the posts busting your balls about the "facog."  not everyone has $1000 to drop on a real optic.  if having a low priced red dot means you'll get more trigger time, then more power to you.  no sense in breaking the bank on optics for your first rifle until you find out what you really want.  what's the addage here, "buy once, cry once."

you don't need to have the words trijicon or nightforce on your glass to enjoy the AR platform.  when the time comes though, throw that barska back on the 15-22.

Is that dust cover flipping up or are my eyes deceiving me?  I've never noticed this before.  Is it because it's a lefty?  If so, why is it different?

Yes good eye the dust cover does flip up Im assuming its because its a left handed upper and it would/could interfere with the bolt release  seems all they change for the left handed versions is the upper nothing changes on lower as far as select levers and such

congrats on the first gun, I'd put that barska back on the .22 and shoot irons on the AR until you can afford something nicer, take a look at Vortex optics, they are good people and a nice product. Its not an ACOG but its better than the barska

Great rifle. I can see the future and it looks like you are going to love it.  As far as the optics goes ( and I think you have this figured out), if your using it for a range/fun toy that will be just fine.  But def. Learn how to use irons efficiently.
I got an EoTech off the EE for almost half normal price, just keep an eye out.
Congratulations and welcome to the site.

Dude, take a step back and lay off the accesories for a good 6 months. The only thing I would add to that rifle right now would be a good pistol grip if you're so inclined. I'd be droppin most of my cash on ammo. Pretty rifles are nice, but they are just clubs without the gas!

No, I'm just an anti-BS kind of guy. There is this idea (Esp. on forums, sorry guys!) that you need an eotech, trijicon, or aimpoint or go home and that simply isn't true. It is a good idea to learn to use irons (for many reasons), but can you keep a straight face and say that lining up two iron sights is easier than a red dot on a lens?
