I have an ar-15 variant that was sold during the Assault weapons ban. Can I leagally put a flash hider on it? If so, does someone make one I can somehow clamp onto the barrel without having to thread it?

PS
If this is some new idea, I want royalties!

Here you go. But I will be really honest I would rather send the upper to ADCO and not only have them not only thread the barrel for $65 USD plus have a new front sight base put on. Plus it looks like crap in my opinion.

Here is Adco's link to the barrel threading

Thank you Sir...

Enough said... I think I will spring for the threading.

The Federal law expired. It is no longer law. Unless you live in a 'ban' state, you can de-ban your rifle. Because it was made in the USA, it also does not fall under 922r like most AKs. I highly recommend ADCO for any kind of barrel work or gunsmithing on the AR. If you decide to have it threaded, you might also consider having it shortened (if its a 16" barrel now) to approx. 14.9"-15.0" and the A2 flash hider permanently attached to make it a legal 16" barrel with the true carbine appearance.
