I would guess maybe a month and a half ago I ordered stripper clips from Old Sarge's Drop Zone and have loaded about half of them up to this point.

They seemed so doggone difficult to load into the clip and unload into the magazine. Some cartridges would slip on like there was butter greasing the stripper clip. Other's were like they were oversized and had to be forced and wiggled into place.

Anyhow, when I first received my package, I found at the bottom of the plastic bag that the stripper clips came in what looked like a handful of gravel had been thrown in. I didn't think anything of it back then. Today though as I was loading up a few I noticed some small pebbles inside the stripper clips at the ends. So now I'm in the process of disassembling each stripper clip, cleaning them out, and reassmbling.

I did have a question I never asked before I found the root of my problems; Do any of you lightly oil your stripper clips for easier loading/unloading or are they meant to be used dry?

Also, when you break a tab off do you save the stripper clip still and maybe use it as a range only clip or just discard it?

No I never earl my stippers
I just load them up with 5.56/223rem ammo

I do like the Old THERMOLD STRIPPERS & LOADERS alot better than USGI

Are you using a spoon to load them into the mag?

I see them as expendable.  The tabs break and I toss them.  I guess you could oil them, but just wiping the dirt off would be good enough.

Pull the brass piece out of the broken ones and use them to clean the inside of your bolt carrier, with a barrell patch around it of course.

Cleaning media from a tumbler likely, a lot of bulk stripper clips are coming this way now.  Dissassemble and clean.  I do not use oil.  Oil next to the primer for long term storage doesn't appeal to me.

Regarding broken tabs, my bigger fear is a tab breaking off during the strip cycle and lodging somewhere/causing problems.

The less you bend the tabs, the longer they will last.  You don't have to bend them to 90 degrees to hold the ammo in place, just a couple degrees will do it.  I even put Wolf on strippers just because I hate loading by single rounds for plinking at the range.

StripLula is worth every penny, much better than GI spoons.

That wolf ammo is tougher to put on than regular brass. 223/.556.  I usually have wiggle them on.
