I have a gas piston conversion in my AR 15. I installed an aftermarket H3 anti-cant buffer, and Wolf XP action spring to eliminate buffer tube wear. Since I installed them, when I pull back my charging handle the bolt won't automatically lock back without me using the manual button on the side to lock it. I asked heavybuffers about it and he said it will probably take some shots down range to break in the spring. 500 rounds later, it still won't lock in without using the manual button (it does lock back properly when the last round of a mag is fired though). Any thought on what to do? Thanks fellows!
The H3 anti-cant buffer is a heavy buffer with a nipple that protrudes into the BCG that prevents BCG tilt in the gas piston conversions (prevents the wear in your buffer tube. It works, but the rifle no longer folds open for easy barrel cleaning. You hafta remove both pins and slide the upper forward to get it apart for even basic cleaning...the Wolf XP spring is about 1/3 longer than the standard spring. In my case it's again an attempt to prevent buffer tube wear by slowing down the action, but if one were to buy a .50 Beowulf upper it would help reduce the increased recoil.
It was...I bought the rifle with the conversion already installed at a good price. There was alot of buffer tube wear, it was a pain to get it all worked out. Had to buff out the old buffer tube damage, spend 120 on the anti tilt buffer and new spring...it performs great now, but I wouldn't advise the conversions. My next upper will definatley be DI, probably a larger caliber...I really want the .50 Beowulf, although now my .223 upper with the conversion and the aftermarket products to fix the flaws have it working just fine. Very accurate, very controllable in rapid fire, no heat or carbon in the upper, and you can run it very wet...basically it runs like a seeing machine, but if I hadn't got the price I did on the rifle, I would feel like I had just been pulled into a money trap. I've got a good rifle, but I'm still more partial to DI.
