All, I posted this follow-up question in my earlier thread about .22 conversion kits but it didn't get noticed, so I'll give it another shot. I'm still on the fence about getting one because I'm not sure what the long term effects on the AR's gas system would be. In my considerable experience with shooting rimfires I have come to consider the .22LR as one of the dirtiest little cartridges in existence. Not only does the powder tend to be dirty, but the lube off the bullets seems to accumulate in every nook and cranny of the gun. I'm really concerned that prolonged use of a conversion unit would gum up the works in an AR gas system and could cause problems when it got switched back to 5.56.

Does anyone know if this is the case, or am I just being paranoid? Thanks for any help!

You know, that's the first thing that occured to me too. Seems logical enough, but I still felt the need to field the question in case there were some pesky issues not so easily resolved.
