It was a beautiful day so I spent it at the range. Temperature was 40 with no wind and the sun was out. I took my chrono out because I wanted to see how my 77 grain 5.56 load would do in my guns for velocity. I am going to the Larue match in Texas this year and I am working on a good long distance load.  Here are the chrono results

Conclusion

Noveske N4 2505
DD M4         2506
Colt              2449
Larue            2671

So after playing musical optics with my rifles the last few months I am back to were I started from on my Noveske. I put the Swarovski back on it. I am going to take this rifle to the Larue match and use it for patrol. I like the ACOG with the Aimpoint off set that I had before. But I think having a 1-6 power variable scope gives me a bit more versatility on patrol. I don’t see myself shooting past 200 yards but I have been in situations where it would have been nice to see the target better. A 6x optic does that better than a 3x one.

I was worried that my Noveske may not have enough velocity to knock the 500 yard targets over at the Larue match but I found it is pushing bullets just as fast as my 16 inch DDM4 and faster than my Colt.

I put the TA 33 and Aimpoint on the Colt and the Tr24 on the DDM4.

I also did some work on shooting from awkward positions. Basically shooting from urban prone where the rifle is at 90 degrees in order to shoot under  low cover like under a vehicle.  Basically I found if you want to hit the target you need to aim  at the opposite shoulder from where your scope is facing. So if your ejection port is down you aim at 2 o clock ie the targets left shoulder and if your are shooting ejection port up you aim at the 10 o clock or right shoulder.  Below is a target showing what I mean. The sticky notes were my aim points.

Nice...

Your Tac max load with the 77s...is that .223 data? Ramshot put out 5.56 data last year and I have gotten 77s to 2700 out of a 14.5 with it.

The max load I got was from sierra's book. Do you have a link to the new data?

My favorite is the Noveske it has the best trigger and is the most accurate of my carbines. (solid 1 moa gun for 5 shot groups) The colt and the DD are 1.5 moa guns on average) My Larue which was not pictured (waiting on new Nightforce 2.5-10) is more accurate (.5 moa gun) but very heavy.
