Using Mega Billet upper/lower, Y/M chrome standard BCG, RRA 2- stage trigger and a BCM standard 16" mid-length barrel.
What should I use for a buffer? Carbine? H? H2? H3? Just recreational shooting. Mostly 62 gr. |

I have a RRA 16" Mid-length. Just took off an A2 stock and put on an adjustable.
What I can tell you is I HATE the recoil impulse now. The weapon bounces all over and while split times are fast, it takes too long to reacquire a target. I am going to try a heavier buffer, at least an H2 maybe a 9mm. Anything to get the recoil impulse and muzzle flip back to like it was with a fixed stock and standard carrier. It think the only way to do this is to get a carrier as close to 5oz as possible. I run 55-68's |

i'm gonna suggest that you try one of spike's st-t2 buffers, as they really do smooth out a carbine somewhat. i've seen the light on this, and ordered more for my carbines. +1 I sold off all of my carbines, but kept a Spike ST-T2 buffer out of one of them to try in my new rifle that comes with an H2 buffer standard. I'll also be trying a 9mm buffer. Going for maximum "smoothness" and whats the friendliest to shoot suppressed without sacrificing any reliability. Buffers are relatively cheap.....try more than one until the gun feels good to shoot and stays reliable. |

This is .3-.4oz heavier than a rifle buffer which I have used in all other AR's. Gun shoots MUCH better now. Feels what I expect an AR to feel like. I just can't see how that light buffer slamming back so fast into the buffer tube is a good thing. I understand the theory and physics of lighter moving parts... but in the real world the light buffer bounced me all over and gave me a headache (literally). As a side note, and I cannot say whether the heavier buffer had anything to do with it, however I shot one of the best 100 yd groups today with 68 hornady's. I was sighting in a new Burris XTR-14 so it was probably the scope. But that heavy buffer smoothed out the recoil impulse tremendously. I may get a Spikes or Daniel Defense H2 with the tungsten powder just to compare but this 9mm seems GTG for my setup. |
