I just changed out the barrel on my Bushmaster. I went from the 14.5" pined barrel that was chrome lined to a stainless Rock River barrel.
My concern is that when I went out and test fired the rifle I had one round stuck in the chamber. It came out without a great deal of force but it would not come out with just the extractor. I checked the sheel and didn't find any obvious sign of over pressure. I have run 5000 rds of Monarch brand ammo thru multipule guns without problem, but........... Monarch is basiclt Wolf ammo. Steel case cheap stuff. Chrome lined barrels have never been a problem. Is a stainless barrel differant, or do I need more of a breakin. |

Your Rock River barrel has a Wylde chamber. It's tighter than the 5.56 chamber your Bushmaster had. It's also brand new. Clean the barrel, shoot a few hundred rounds of brass cased ammo through the barrel, and try again.
Why you would bother putting crap ammo through an accuracy-minded barrel is beyond me. |

I use it for carbine and three gun shots. I wanted more weight and to add a better comp. Taking the pined comp was going to be a problem.
I am buying the ammo at $0.21/rnd. Brass ammo is running .40. At 200 to 300 rnds a month that starts totaling up. A lot of ranges are now saying that if the brass hits the ground its theirs. That stops the reloading |

My shoes are touching the ground, does that make them theirs? What happens if i drop my wallet accidently, do they get my cash? I'd tell them unless they show me a receipt, the brass coming out of my gun is as much theirs as the gun is: not at all. |

Texas State Carbine Championship. They stated that the brass is theirs.
Local shot I go to once a month. If I shag my own brass right after I shot I can have it. Kind of hard to get my brass while holding a rifle and before the next guy. Yes sometimes I pick some up alone with others. Depends on the SO and who's watching. The range owner complained once. Seems half their money comes from brass sales. So I give him lots of steel. |

Most all big matches are lost brass. With alot of people shooting it takes up too much time to pick it up. The local matches aren't normally like that.
Some matches use the brass as a prize. Each stage the brass is picked up and given away too a shooter either by raffle or placement. |

If the chamber isn't chrome lined it's not as "slick". It may break in or steel cased ammo may not work at all.
On a side note that brass bullshit is why I don't shoot matches. I don't have the money to be giving away over $10 in brass to the range after paying range fees and match fees. |

Seems half their money comes from brass sales. Doesn't give them the right to steal from you. However, they have every right to set the conditions for your utilization of their private property. If part of the deal is that you forfeit the possession of any brass ejected onto their ground ... well, you agreed to shoot there. Freedom is for everyone ... and respecting private property rights and fulfilling contractual obligations are a cornerstone of those freedoms. |

I'd consider it theft and I wouldn't shoot there. |

To the OP, shoot your trash brass at the tournaments. Reloading is the only way to go, I cringe whenever I hear people shooting steel cased ammo through their rifles. It's the lowest grade ammo available and the accuracy is.........well isn't worth it.
I think everyone should be voicing outrage over this brass policy. If nothing else we should allow pick up after the tournament or split the brass equally between all competitors. I would be using a brass catcher for sure. This drives people away from tournaments which is not helpful to anyone. I can't justify shooting anything more than ammo designated as "last rounders" if this policy becomes widespread. Especially after we have just come to the end of a two year dry spell where hoarding was rampant and prices went through the roof if you could find any at all. Range policies should always be shooter friendly. What we don't need is anything that deters peoples' participation. It's no small outlay to shoot a tournament as is. Travel expenses, ammo, range fees and various other expenses and now they want to keep the brass too? I say screw um, I'll shoot at my club for free. What if they threw a tournament and nobody came? |
