Got an FSC 556 comp today.  I only needed to use two of the thinner shims to get the unit to get the unit to witness properly.  Is this normal?

Depends on your good fortune. I had to use three.

This muzzle brake is AMAZING! I'm now easily able to control my LWRC M6A2 SMG, like never before as it would rise to the right w/every mag dump.

There is no set number, you use how many you have to.  +1 on the comp, I love mine.
