| I know there had been some problems with the mp15-22 jamming. I bought one yesterday and figured I would have gotten one that had the update in it. I bought the federal value pack of 525 rounds. I shot probably 300+ rounds and every magazibe I went through there were probably 3 plus jams in each magazine. Should I shoot it a few more times to see if it continues or call Smith and Wesson to see if I need to send it to them? Any advice would be awesome! Thanks |

The biggest initial problems were with extraction. I believe those issues were fixed by S&W. If not then there is a pretty easy fix that can be done. It's described in several places around the internet. My 15-22 was one of the first and it never had an extraction issue.
I've put a lot of rounds through my 15-22 over the last couple months. The biggest issue that causes jamming for me is loading the mags improperly. Because the .22LR round is rimmed you need to be a little more careful about how the mag is loaded. Follow the directions that came with the rifle and be sure that the rounds are stacked so that they stagger every round. Only load one round at a time (no matter how tempting it is to pull the follower all the way down and just dump them in) It takes longer to properly load a 15-22 mag than it does to load a regular AR mag. I usually run into problems with this when I'm topping-off mags at the range and not really being careful about how I load the rounds. Another issue I've run into is that one of my mags has some issue with the feed-lip that causes about one round per mag to get caught and stuck in the mag. The round is usually really jammed in there and hard to remove. It's really annoying and it only happens with that one mag, so I figure it has to be a mag issue. ETA: I forgot to add that the 15-22 can be a little finicky about what ammo it likes. It generally does very poorly with some brands, especially Remington. You are using Federal though, so I doubt it's an ammo issue. Most people find that Federal and CCI work best in their 15-22s. |
