After finally getting a camera and posting pics of my AR's I'm gonna put off building my last lower and upgrade two rifles. One is a Bushy sbr 10.5 lmt upper and the other a Sabre with 14.5 pinned and welded hider. What is a good free-float rail system that can be installed without removing barrel nut. Would you recommend an Aimpoint or Eotech for close range low light shooting.

I highly suggest trying an eotech before buying. I was looking through an XPS today, the new model, and the hologram was completely pixelated for me. Horrible. Not for anyone else, or at least not very long, but it just would NOT focus for me. Different target distances, different distance from my eye, with glasses and without... The glasses are just to tune distance vision, and do help with things like aimpoints being sharp, but are not THAT vital. It was still useable, but even turned way down the center dot would not condense for me, instead of 1moa it was more like a 5moa multi-dot mess. Probably just odd interaction between their system and my eyes, but better to find out before you buy.
Very good to know, since I'd considered one of the new ones for one of my rifles and might have ordered online without ever looking through them. I'll honestly need to play more before I exclude it entirely. Possibly it was the lighting situation, maybe just that unit.... I know it took a little practice with aimpoints and aimpoint style dots to really get my eye used to it and maybe the needed "muscle memory" for my eye is different. Other than that, gotta say I was impressed with the unit. Seemed a bit more rugged and the buttons worked well. They're on the back though, so it might be an issue for some folks who are putting magnifiers back there. It won't work for me, but it worked just fine for the person actually shopping, so we know what he wants to put on his build. As for a rail, the DD Omegas are the cat's meow on two piece systems. I love mine. Rock solid, and you don't have to do anything to the rifle, just take off the stock hand guards and put the Omega in place, screw together and tighten the screws to lock it all down. If you want to put the old hand guards back you just reverse the process. Couldn't be simpler. |

you can use that DD omega to m4 style handguards? how much is it? For the price of a DD Omega, you can get a YHM lightweight FF rail, and the tools the remove the barrel and FSB, which you will do eventually. The knowledge of how to do it is available right here. As for teh optic, that's a matter of preference. I prefer the eotech. Battery life is much less, but it takes AA batteries if you choose wisely. BFD. The reticule is SOOOOO much easier to acquire than the Aimpoint that it's not even worth debating battery life. |
