I know this isn't "retro" per say but since the very first ones used A1 lowers I thought I'd show you guys.  If the mods don't think it should be here please feel free to delete it as it's also posted in the long running Mk12 Mod0 thread.

Well after at least 18 months or so I've finally completed my dream weapon.  It's a clone of the very first model of the Mk12 Mod0 rifle.  To me this is the sexiest of the AR variants.

The early ones were built using spare M16A1 lowers at Crane.  I built this on a black A1 lower from NoDak.  It was then sent to Identmarking.  They used several different buttstocks including the A1.  So of course I chose the A1.  Plus I think it's the best looking one that was used.

Due to my retro disease I had to use only original type parts.  The only thing that might be considered incorrect is the "brand" of barrel and "brand" of the LPK.  Everything else is pretty much dead on as far as originality.

Here's the build list for those interested:

-Colt Upper Receiver
-Colt BCG
-18" SPR Barrel
-PRI Early Style Tube
-PRI Early (adjust wheel) Front Sight/Gas Block (with been there, done that paint)
-OPS Inc. Brake & Collar
-ARMS #38 SPR Rail
-ARMS #40 Rear Sight
-ARMS Med. Rings
-Leupold 3.5 x 10 - 40 L/R M3 Scope
-NoDak Spud A1 Lower Receiver
-Type "E" A1 Buttstock
-Versa Pod Bi-Pod

Looks great!  i was just telling Morg308 that I'd like to build an SDMR.  As much as I love the retro models, there's something to be said for 600-meter effectiveness.
Whose barrel did you use?

I'll be looking forward to a range report!

OMG...that makes me happy in my pants.

I love the MK12 MOD0 clones, and I have to say that is the hottest thing I have ever seen.

Was it hard finding the "Retro" MOD 0 parts?

To answer a few questions:

1.  How does it shoot?

I just got it together on Monday.  We still have a ton of snow on the ground and temps only in the 20's so it's going to be a couple weeks until I can get out for a range session.

2.  What barrel did you use?

I used a WOA turned by Compass Lake Engineering.  Douglas would have been the correct manufacture but these SPR barrels were very hard to come by during the Obama scare.  This one came up and I snagged it.

3. Was it hard finding the "Retro" MOD 0 parts?

There are really only two parts that might be considered "hard" to get.  I had to make a few phone calls to the guys that run PRI for the early handguard as they don't make them anymore.  They dug around the warehouse and found me a new "old style" tube.  I can't remember their names but the were very nice and very helpful.

The early PRI flip up front sight/gas block with the adjustment wheel is a bit of a rarity.  PRI had to stop making that version early on as they supposedly violated a patent.  I've only seen pics of maybe three or four in civilian hands.  The rest I've seen in pics on military guns.  If you look at mine you can still see the "cammo" paint from it's past days in the service.  I just happen to get lucky finding mine.

Mk12s and Mk18s are about the sexiest two AR variants ever conceived.  Well done man.
