| This is only the 2nd topic I've posted, but I'd like to thank everyone who commented on my last post as you have all been a great deal of help. I'm leaning towards going w/ a Colt as my first Ar, and am deciding between the 6920 & 6940. Based on what I've seen on this forum it appears as though the only difference between the 2 models is that the 20 has a regular hand guard and the 40 has the quad rail. Is this correct is this the only difference? As far as pricing goes I was told by my local shop the 6920 is $1225 & the 6940 is $1425, are these decent prices or are they on the high end? If they are on the high end what is a realistic price I should be paying for each model? Also, if I were to go w/ the 6920 I'm assuming I could always upgrade and put on a quad rail hand guard, is this correct? What do they tend to go for? Thanks again ahead of time for everyone's help & thanks for welcoming me into the forum, seems like this is a pretty good forum to be a part of! |
| Those prices aren't too bad. I've read on here that 6920's have been seen for around $1100, but I've yet to see them, unless you're an LEO. You can change the handguard on a 6920 pretty easily. If you just want one to slip in place of the plastic handguards, look at the KAC RAS or DD rails. KAC's are on the EE around here for around $150 and the DD's are around $250. I'd suggest trying both models and see which one you like the best. |

I got my 6920 off of Gunbroker.com. The seller was Ray Tanner from Tannerssportcenter.com. Price was 1125.00. I think he sells them from his store for 1100.00. I got the 6920 instead of the 6940 so I could add the rails that I wanted and be able to change it back to stock if I wanted to.

The 6920 has a conventional front sight base, the 6940 has a folding sight at the front. The 6940 also has a folding rear sight instead of the detachable carry handle.
Depending on what rail setup you went for, the price difference could be eaten up with that. If you go with an optic and wanted a BUIS for the rear that could also eat away some price difference. I went for the 6940 since the rail was already there and I planned to go with a Eotech from the beginning. The BUIS was included, and I wanted the choice of whether to have the front sight out of the way. |
