Hey everyone,
Just thought I'd take the time to finally post after spending a lot of time on here narrowing down what I want to do for my first AR. There's definitely a wealth of knowledge on here. Between that and some of my veteran buddies, I think I have a pretty good plan of action. I want to piece-together my rig as funds become available. I'm hoping to have everything done by mid-summer. Here's what I'm thinking: BCM Standard 16" Middy Upper Larue 9" Rail Unsure on Lower/LPK MBUS or Troy BUIS I guess that means the only thing I'm certain of is my upper. I want to go with a Larue for a FF setup, but just to make sure I have a functional rig in time for some summer fun, I might hold-off on it until funds are available and just use a BCM or RRA midlength handguard. Although I'm unsure on my lower, I'd like to keep with BCM and go with their lower, but I've read a few posts about there being a little play. I've heard it's no big deal, but I don't know it I should maybe just save a few $$$ and go with a Spikes lower. I think that whatever I do I'll go with a complete lower. My rig will start out as a KISS, but I'd eventually deck it out with the basic HD/SHTF goods (light/sling/sight). Like I said before, I just want to get something functional first, then I'll add the other stuff. And lastly, since I'm relatively close to pulling the trigger on my upper purchase, I was wondering if any of our sponsors (primarily BCM) have any kind of a discount for veterans? (5 years Navy) Thanks, guys! N83 |

LaRue has a .mil discount if you call. Not sure about Bravo, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had one as well. My Spike's complete lower has been good to me, however the trigger (I believe they use DPMS kits) has developed a bit of creep with use and I may send it off to Bill Springfield in the next month or so to clean it up. This could probably happen with any standard trigger, though. Welcome to the site, and that sounds like a nice build in the making.

i might have some pull. east coast or west coast sea man! I did both. First tour at the Office of Naval Intelligence (Suitland, MD) and second was an aircrew tour riding EP-3E's with VQ-1 out of Whidbey Island, WA. Quoted:

i have the 16" bcm middy as well.
if i may suggest a lower for you; i used a mega lower, just the forged "gator". there is zero play with my upper, everything fits perfectly. i installed a RRA lpk and the install was buttery smooth too, everything fits perfectly. i got my lower for $100 from this guy: ballisticsounds shipping was same day and everything went smooth. total after shipping and ffl was $132 ($25 FFL + $8 shipping). |
| i don't beleive all BCM uppers and lowers have a sloppy fit, as i have 3 complete BCM rifles that fit just fine. i got the uppers all from BCM, and 2 of the lowers from G&R tactical, one from E.E. they all mate with no play what-so-ever,, and i have to admit i'm one of the nerds that is fussy about that situation. most say this will not cause any problems, however most old-time high-power shooters swear it causes vertical stringing at distance. i personally beleive the latter. you can order a complete rifle from G&R Tactical that the gentleman has mated upper and power reeivers for proper fit, for the same price as you can buy the stuff and assemble yourself.. |

Where are you located? Come out and shoot some Benchrest matches with us. We are starting a new category just for ARs and only ARs. Adrian I'm in Alexandria. And I'd enjoy coming out to shoot. Gotta put something together first ;) Quoted:

Sounds like great news! As far as G&R Tactical, and as much as I'd love to get a complete rifle, I think I'm too pumped to get started on a project to wait till I have enough to buy a complete one. Who knows, I guess it's ultimately up to the wife Thanks again, everyone! |
