What the hell causes this? I have had plenty of other AR's and never had this problem, go and buy this LMT and got the most problem's i've ever had !!! Every 2 shot's I get a jam, failure to feed, every time same jam. It seems to be catching on the lug in front of the barrel. The tip of the bullet get's caught in between the gaps of the lug's. Tried different mag's, ammo, same thing, I may get 3 shots before it jams. I've cleaned and cleaned took the bolt apart numerous times re-assembled oiled, same thing. I'M PISSED OFF !!! Does anybody got any solutions?

I would normally say magazines but you said you tried different kinds.

I had a buddy who bought an lmt upper last month and the internals were all messed up.  He bought a fail zero bolt carrier and it wouldn't go all the way into the upper, tried to put one of his colt bolts into it and same thing.  Sent it back to LMT and they hooked him up, but couldn't figure out how they (LMT) got their BCG to fit in it when it went out the first time.

Could be a bad batch of uppers, might try putting another BCG in it just to see if everything lines up.

If you have dummy rounds, try to hand cycle them and see if you can replicate the malfunction.

Separate the lower from the upper, and take pictures of the chamber area.

Contact LMT.

you may need to run a stone or a file on the ramps, but first try running it verrrry wet and see if that helps. I had a similar problem and a little polishing and running the gun wet took the problem away.
After a few (300+) rounds break in period it runs without a problem with just a "normal" amount of lubricant.
Have you tried contacting LMT to see what they say?

I just spoke to Gene, he said it sounds like it's hanging on the left feed ramp, no shit it's hangning on both, he also said to try and slide a paper clip down the ramp to see if their is a bur if so I could try and hit it with a stone or file. WOW. If not I could send it back and they would polish the ramps. Did I just pay 1600.00 for a rifle I had to work on to get it to shoot?

I would be interested in a photo of your feed ramps if ya hav'nt got into it yet....Thanks!

the bolt catch on my LMT MRP was loose and I didn't think anything of it till it started to lock the bolt back when there was still ammo left in the mag. I took it to my dealer and after he looked it over, saw that there was a burr internally in the receiver. He filed it down a little and it runs fine now.

so LMT's response was for you to "polish the feedramps" yourself?!
i wouldn't want to risk damaging the anodizing on the upper.  those MPR uppers are not cheap.
i say whoever they hired in QC during the rush needs to be let go.
the customer service here is definitely lacking if they want you to DIY.
just my $.02.... send it back.

OK here it goes, after checking the feed ramps per a call to LMT and you guy's post, it was burr's on both feed ramps. All together it was 4 burr's, they were at the end of the ramps on both sides on both ramps. I got the dremel box out and got the pointed stone out and hand rubbed the area's, then polished with a little flitz on a polish pad with the dremel, feels smooth as glass now. Went and shot guess what?

Runs great! It is just so frustrating to wait almost a week after I got it because of rain and work to shoot it and finally get the chance and it jams like hell. Well thanks for your tips as always. I just put about 100 more rounds down wind with no problems.

The last Upper I bought from LMT was junk, it had a  canted front site base, would not shoot any 5.56 rounds and had dents in the receiver.  I sent it back to Gene to get it fixed. He reamed out the chamber but did not fix the canted front site base. There QC sucks I'd never by from these Jokers again.

Hmmmm...I was just getting ready to order a LMT Sopmod lower, while talking with a vendor on the east coast this am, he said he didn't have any LMT BCG's, he said he was waiting until they cleared up an issue they were having with them...

I'm new at this AR thing...is this common?

I guess Im the only one with a good (all together)  LMT rifle.  Im sure the problem he was referring to was the MIM gas key material they are using.  Hopefully they will take care of people if they are having problems.

Wow.  I really feel your pain.  I had the exact problem with a RR lower, Bushy upper several years ago.  I couldn't even cycle it by hand.  Every freaking round got jammed up on the feed ramps.  Ammo, mags, etc..  made no difference.  It would fire the chambered round, eject the spent casing, but would not feed the next round.  In cycling by hand or using the bolt catch the round would hang up.  I tried cleaning the piss out of it, swapping uppers, bolt carrier groups, you name it, I tried it.  Nothing fixed the issue.  Finally I gave up and sold the darn thing.  To this day I still don't know what happened.  It was fine the first year or so I had it.  Only had about 600 or so rounds thru it too.  Obviously something got out of whack, but no clue what it was.  Like I said, i gave up and sold it.  I'd still like to know what had happened.

It's stuff like this that makes me wonder where LMT's "top tier" status is.

My upper's FSB is canted.  My lower's pivot pin hole looks like it was dremeled out.  Granted, it still shoots well.

Someone posted a similar problem a few weeks ago, and sent the gun back to LMT. Problem was the ejector was a little to long.

The last LMT 14.5 I purchased came to me with a loose barrel nut & barrel & Gene told me to just return it to the dealer to see if they would fix it for me.

one more thing, When I bought this rifle they had one on display and two others in the box never opened straight from LMT. Well I bought one that had never been opened and I opened it at the store, the rifle was still in the plastic took a quick look and bought it. When I got it home that night I got it out and started cleaning it and noticed a nice size chip in the finish on the upper along the edge where the upper and lower meet right above the logo LMT above the mag well. It was about a 1/2" long and about 2mm wide it ran with the edge of the upper, all the finish was off down to the I guess primer, the color was grey, also another chip way smaller about 3 incher down from that in the same location on the edge of the upper. I took it back to the dealer and they offered to exchange, so we got the other rifle out of the box that had never been opened and guess what, same issue but worse the chip was deeper. I decided to keep mine since the only other one they had was a display that looked like it had nicks all over it from handling back and forth on display. Well I came home and used a flat black touch up pen and covered it the best I could. Then the jamming problem. I hope I can put this behind me.

Mine runs like a striped ass ape, but it's a couple years old.

LMT is no different from anybody else.  They sit on top for a time and then slip down to the middle when the market takes off.

I love my LMT defender 2000. I have not had one single issue aside from my dislike for the MIM gas key. I changed it out to a USGI key. Every manufacturer makes a lemon every now and then. I sure hope this isn't a trend for LMT.  I still prefer their components over most.

No it's not common, there is a posting on here right now about a guy having the same problem with his Knights Armament rifle.  All companies produce a dud now and then.  For some reason people on this forum like to  slam LMT harder than other companies when they make a mistake.  Knights Armament rifle dud

My LMT 10.5 inch upper runs great, and is very accurate. I am sorry that you had a problem, I can tell you that problems like these can happen to ALL and I mean ALL firearms manufacturers, my guess it was built on a Friday at about 4:30....

What ever you do, don't use the torque wrench that came with the rifle to change you barrels. That wrench is made-in-China junk.

Otherwise, My 3 LMT MRP's and 1 Carbine runs great.

Im a LMT fan with a bunch of thier products, and as a fanboy I don't see posts like this as bashing the brand.Personally I like to see posts like this as its rather informative, particularly for the newer folks in troubleshooting and things to look for on new weapons no matter the brand.
Would have probably been better received and handled in the "Troubleshooting forum",but still a interesting read.
Otherwise Im glad you got the issue worked out.

True. It seem like people have there favorites that get a little more wiggle room than some of the others. I have 2 LMT's and although I had one that was sent back for COSMETIC reasons, they both have/do run 100%. WHen your sales increase 200% and there are that many more of your rifles in the market it stands to reason that there might be a few with some issues. and that goes for all manufacturers. If you feel that LMT should have requested the rifle back not questions asked thats one thing. But if I can fix an issue in a matter of seconds just as if LMT did it themselves, I would appreciate them letting me know that so I can spend time shooting and not waiting for my rifle to show up at my home.
