Looking at the Tango Down MK46 (not the QD), Troy Industries and the Daniel Defense VFG. Any opinions on these? Maybe from someone who has owned more than one listed. The Tango and Troy are pretty similar in price but the DD seems to be about $15/$20 cheaper. Thoughts??

I haven't used the ones that you listed, but I would check out the Spike's tactical VFG. That's what I run, and I have nothing but praise for it. The fit and finish is excellent.

This would be my first choice ... Troy and Spikes also make nice VFG

Just put on my Tango Down non-QD. Gotta say, it locks up nice and tight and seems solid as hell. Comfortable for me too. I'm a big fan so far.

If cost is an issue the Tapco stubby VG's are solid, I own 2. Mapgpul is also coming out with a MOE vertical grip soon. It will be cheap and typical magpul quality.

I have the DD cause it came with my DDM4 it's a good VFG. I keep two surefire batteries for my taclight in the hollow core. I haven't used the others you have listed, but LaRue always makes quality products.

I have been wanting a Grip pod  GPS-02, I couldn't believe when I saw many of them on Ebay for $60, these things sell on the net for $150. I ordered mine for $50 shipped. Can't wait to try it out.

I have a lot of the TangoDown VFGs (QD and non-QD).  As long as your rail is mil-spec and proper picatinny proportions, it will lock up solid and is very comfortable.

If you are going to use a tape switch for a light, get the Tangodown as it has a removable slot in the side where you can put a tape switch and it holds it perfectly.

If you are not going to use a tape switch, then either get this VFG or the Larue FUG.  Both are really good.  But the TangoDown is better for tape switches in my opion as the fug just has a flat spot where you have to doublesided tape the tape switch and use rubber pieces to hold it in place.

I would use the QD version if I were you.  They are close to the same price as the non-QD, and you can make the non-QD fit rails that are not in spec, or that have been worn.

I've used all of them and a bunch you haven't listed.  VFGs fall into a few different schools of thought.  Fit to your hand is important, especially if you are one  of the people which grabs the VFG with your full hand.  If you use it as more of a index point, its not as imperative.   Are you looking to spend $100 on a VFG?  Do you really need to quickly disconnect your VFG?  Some people will want the most expensive items regardless of what they are doing, and thats fine, its their weapon and their money.  I certainly wouldn't recommend a poorly made or airsoft knockoff that can break. Stick with something from known company, and you should be GTG.

I've been playing around with the upcoming Magpul VFG for a few months, and I think they've got something which is going to take the wind of the sales of a lot of companies selling VFGs.  Priced at $20/ $25 depending on which model, its a well built polymer VFG that isn't going to break under impact, is very ergonomic, and costs less than I spend on coffee and junk in a week on patrol.

Here are a few pictures of the rail mounted version.
