I tried searching, but didn't find what I was looking for. Apologies if my search-foo is not that good.
I am building my first rifle, a 16" barrel with rifle length free float handguards. I'm not a fan of a lot of rails. I would like a smoth sort of surface that i can attach just the amount of rail that i want. I plan on having a front sight and maybe a light on top (with an offset mount) and an Magpul AFG on the bottom, I found 2 so far that look like they would work the YHM Customizeable Free Float Forearm and the Troy Extreme Battlerail Are there any other options i should consider? Do you have any opinions on these choices? |

I have the YHM Custom and the Smooth Rifle Forearms. Be aware that the screws that mount the top rail on the Custom Forearm will make contact with the Gas Tube and cause a significant problem with your Carrier going into battery. I spoke with YHM this morning who indicated that the only solution was to file the problematic screw(s) down to an acceptable length.
I prefer the Smooth Rifle Forearm, simply because of the anti-rotation screws. It's a matter of choice...good luck. |

Depends on how "smooth" you want the look, but another one to consider might be the Midwest Industries SS Series:
MI SS Series FF Handguards |

I'm now looking at the MI SS 7". Do you have these? How do they compare in size with a YHM diamond or the Vtac rail? I looked at "the cart" and it looks like the Mi SS is thinner/smaller then these other rails. |
