i am getting closer to pulling the trigger on a BCM middy, and until I can get ahold of the new MOE handguards, is there a preference out there between either the Cav Arms or RRA handguards? Thanks.

You know the drill, Get Both...

FWIW, I prefer the CavArms M4 style handguards on a middy!

I have the Cav Arms C-8 tapered handguards installed on my Bravo mid-length, and like them a lot. Brownells carries them. Try doing a Google search to look for discount/promotion codes for Brownells; their shipping charges can be expensive, unless it's a small item. IIRC I've read here that the RRA handguards are OK, too.

Are the stock handguards carried by BCM still problematic? I read in another thread that there have been some instances of the metal heat shields shooting loose prematurely? Is that why you guys are looking elsewhere?

I can not speak for midlength, but i bought Rock River rifle length handgaurds from Bravo Company to go with the 20" upper I got from them, and they fit together and feel very well. It just depends on what feels better in your hand. I know for me on a carbine length system i like the m4 vs the standard handguards.

I have a set of RRA. They are fine, as are the BCM had guards. CavArms offers more options.

Alternately, you could wait for a set of Magpul MOE hand gurads.

Cav Arms are $10 more expensive that most of the others (RRA, Arma Lite, BCM, etc.) and their shipping cost is is another $10, which to me is a bit over the top for a light weight set of plastic hand guards.

I like the way the rra's feel.  go with the rra's when you buy your middy.  Thats what I did.

I use RRA handguards on my middy too.  They fit together tighter than some others I have tried.
