I'm fixing to start building my new 6.8 upper to replace my early model DPMS that I have reamed to spec-II and am starting with a good upper receiver, there are so many I just cant decide. Color match will be a big +, DPMS has Teflon coating over their anodizing that gives a nice deep smooth black finish, not like the crap on my 6920 for a finish and perfect M4 ramps is a big ++ for a 6.8 upper, so lets hear you guys opinion with as much detail as possible.

I'm looking at Rainier Arms A4 upper, DD , YHM, CMT, Spikes, & Mega, so out of those which would you choose and why?

If you would choose a different receiver I want to know about that as well and why?

CMT or BCM. Nothing else is really needed and these are avaliable from BCM for under $100

On BMC site you cant tell which is which, I mean you can tell that it's got M4 ramps or an A3 but not the difference in the BCM marked or CMT(which all BCM's are), so how do you tell if your getting a branded BCM or just a run of the mill CMT receiver(which is good to)?

Lets hear any reviews on the DD & YHM receivers also if anyone has them please.

Aren't CMT's receivers kinda flat or grayish in color?

I want to make sure it's a nice black finish, doesn't have to be Teflon but those are best in looks and wear.

All the black guns we have here and all I get is BCM, I kinda know what a CMT receiver looks like, it's the other new release YHM, DD, Spikes, Rainier, Mega that BCM doesn't have I was more curious about.

I have a Larue Stealth upper receiver on my 5.56 precision build and am looking for something close in quality and color but in forged and under $200 for my precision 6.8 build.

Wilson Combat have some nice looking receivers and do all the machining in house and hold tighter tolerances than Mil Spec, has anyone built off of one of their uppers and how does it look finish wise?

i've seen BCM uppers w/ the same forge mark as RRA, Noveske, and S&W uppers. heck, a lot of uppers i've seen have that "keyhole" forge mark. so i guess they're all the same. i can tell you my Noveske and my S&W upper are EXACTLY the same color. the only thing about my Noveske, is that my Noveske lower is glossier than the upper, so it doesn't match, but i don't care, as it's still a top notch brand.

i'd go for Mega only if i had a Mega lower as i heard their color is a bit different. someone also posted up a picture of a Mega build where the rail they installed (i think it was a Troy) was slightly lower than the upper receiver. i don't know who's at fault though.

i'm not sure if the BCM uppers they sell for $93 or so on their site is the same one they use on their complete upper groups. the pictures of the complete uppers look darker.  if they are though, i'd get the BCM b/c it's cheaper. the Rainier arms looks very dark. it depends on your lower i guess.

i have a Spike's ST-22, i'm not sure if that's the same upper they sell and put on their AR-15's b/c to me, the finish looks every so slightly more dull. it's still very black, but not as "glossy" looking at my Noveske or M&P15.

i haven't seen a DD a plain DD upper or YHM in person, only full DD's, they look nice but not sure it's worth an extra $40 for it.
