I am ordering a new LMTcarbine and was wondering if I should get 14.5" pinned
or a 16" barrel length.
Thanks for the help.

14.5 and get your FH pin welded by ADCO.  Thats what I did with my LMT's.   I think the 14.5 inch barrel looks better on M4 profile barrels with the M203  notch.

it looks like it comes with the flash pinned alredy.
It is late so m i reading that correctly?

Edit: I see it is threaded, so I guess I ave to get it pinned so it is permanent.
This is the stuff I am learning.

Yeah LMT doesnt pin weld flash hiders.  You will deff. need to get that done separately.

but you think that is the way to go
Get the 14.5" and have it welded.
The 16" is actuall 17.5" with the flash, correct?

I suppose someone should ask what it is you plan to do with the upper.  If it is to get it as close to looking like an M4, keep it light and not swap out the flash hider, then yes go with the 14.5" and pin a FH on it.  If you plan on changing to a muzzle brake, or another flash hider, or possibly wanting to put on a supressor, then you'll have to have a gunsmith do the work for you.  That can be a PITA.

With that said, I own a BCM 14.5" with the A2X FH pinned/welded.  It is my SHTF, light and easy carbine.  I dont plan on swapping that FH out ever.  I am happy.

The length of a 16" with a FH is all dependant on what FH you use.  the BCM A2X FH is like 1.6" so you size in at 16.1" so there is no chance of trouble with the law.  Other FH may be 1.5" and its conceivable you'd be 15.9998" :)

I do like the idea of the 14.5 inch and getting the FH pinned on.  Is that something I can do later after I buy it,
or should it be done right away.  If I want the 14.5 and want a can later how hard is it to take the Fh off to put the can on.

If I'm not going for the strict M4 look, I prefer the 16" so that my FH doesn't have to be permanently attached.

I guess the problem is I dont mind which one I get.  I guess it will come down to availibility.
The 16" LMT is availble so that may be the one.

Also Del Ton has some, but I believe the LMT to be that much better

Id go with the 14.5", but choose your flash suppressor wisely.  If you ever plan on adding a suppressor into the mix, you want to make sure you'll be able to attach it via the flash hider, so I'd personally choose a AAC Black out flash hider or YHM, or Surefires depending on what type of suppressor you'd like to go with.

I love my 16"...

...but I love my 14.5" more.

I am building an upper and considering a 20 or 24 inch barrel in 5.56/.223 for long range varmints. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to either? I have heard people say the 24 is not necessary and it may even decrease the performance of long rage shots due to the extra 4 inches. Any opinions or experiences would be helpful.
