I'm looking up parts for the best deals for my first build.  Here's what I have so far:

BCM 16"  M4 upper
BCM BCG
Spike's Tactical lower
RRA LP kit
Magpul MOE handguards
Magpul CTR stock
Magpul MBUS rear sight

Still looking at optics and a light.  This rifle I plan on using for the range/home defense/carbine classes/etc. so it's going to see moderate to heavy use.

I see that BCM has an awesome deal on a DD complete upper:

I like it, however, it's more than what I really want right now.  I would like to be proficient with the weapon system before I start adding quad rails, VFGs, etc.

Thoughts?

shoot the rifle you have now and buy more ammo and mags with the money you're thinking about spending on the DD upper..

This! Take a few classes so you can see what you like/need/want. Id go mid-length on the BCM upper but thats just me.

I'd buy a RDS before the FF rails.

If you want the best light get a Surefire M600C Scout.

Best VFG is a Larue FUG but I dont even use a VFG.

Any of the top end rails are good... buy based on features and length you want.

For an optic... thats a can of worms.  Red dot? ACOG? 1-4X?  You will have a much harder time with that.  Determine if you want magnification or not  to start.  Id lean heavily toward an Aimpoint H1/T1 since you never have to turn it off, its the smallest and lightest, and you can get differnet mounts to suit your taste.

Build the gun with all the shit on it now. This way you START training with all the gear on it and you are proficient much sooner.
As opposed to starting bare, then adding something new and having to retrain yourself with each piece you add.

Looks like the DDM4's sold out... it's a great upper for a hell of a price... mine should be arriving Thursday

If you happen to run across a deal like that I'd go for it, it'll end up being cheaper than a comparable BCM upper and just as well built.

I like B to C cups.

I would definitely recommend shooting the rifle you have, and as you save up money, and as things break, get the fancy gear for it. Even if it means going to the 50 yard line at the range and practicing your shooting stance and follow up shots, it's practice.

DSA upper will save you some dough, brah.

Your build list looks just like one I'm doing for my cousin, btw. Uncanny.
