| These kind of interest me but I want to know if it can damage my barrel or affect it in any negative way. I know it would probably be better to buy an upper completely dedicated for just that but I don't have the money for another upper right now so that's why I'm wondering about just the conversion kits. |

They are fine and won't harm your barrel. Just shoot some regular stuff through it to make sure the gas system gets cleaned out. Look in the Pistol Caliber Forum - someone recently posted a study stating there are no adverse effects using a .22 conversion in a 5.56 upper.
I have a Ceiner, but if I was looking to buy one now I'd look for one that has a nice finish that makes clean up easier, uses BDM magazines and has some o-rings to seat the chamber adapter better. |

I am running a CMMG conversion on a DPMS 1/9 barreled upper. While it isn't good for much more than 25 yards, it is really fun and least you get to hone your trigger work. I did a write-up a while back here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=440908
I have always used good quality .22LR and after a brick of it I run a mag of 5.56 through the gun. Absolutely no failures of any kind yet. |

A lead or copper-coated .22lr bullet at 1,280fps will do no harm to an AR barrel that's designed to withstand a copper jacketed 5.56 bullet at 3200fps. As long as the chamber is well scrubbed and a few .223 rounds are fired afterwards to clear the gas tube of any lead debris, you're good to go. Besides the mentioned CMMG adapter, the one offered by Spike's Tactical is also a fine unit. |
