What do you think is the best AR trigger for a soldier/marine

A Soldier/Marine in what role?  A well tuned stock trigger (as in Bill Springfield working it over) is probably better than just about anything for a tactical weapon.  For a designated marksman?  That would depend on the rifle...

I have not tried one of those, but have heard good things about them.  I have a couple of Jewell's (older)  that I bought at roughly half the going price of a Giessele so am happy,   Recently I tried a Rock River two stage, and have to admit it's not bad and a tremendous improvement over stock although not as nice as the Jewell.

For a precision build you cant go wrong with a Timney, Geissele, Wilson TTU, etc....
For a plinker/HD/ heavy use gun, keep the stock trigger as it is the most reliable and durable.

For a gun my life depends on, I would use nothing but a mill-spec trigger.  They always work, rarely break.

For a range toy where if it stops working, it just means I am done shooting for the day (and I can pick up and go home).  Any of the after market, light, multi-stage triggers are OK for me (until they break, then I go home and put the mill-spec trigger back in).

YMMV

Can't comment for all Infantry.  But for me it would have been a SSA.  Nothing to adjust or come loose.

I don't get the obsession with mil-spec triggers. Couldn't a great trigger be made to mil-spec standards?

Has anyone every heard of one of the Geissele SSAs or FFAs breaking or is this just a case of 'it's not mil-spec so it's crap' mentality?

I think the point is that as a soldier/marine/airman/sailor you can't modify your issue weapon...so you should get good with what you have...

i.e. run whatcha brung (as in to the war/fight).

While I would love to put a match/target trigger in any/all of my ARs (or AKs for that matter) it won't be in the rifle I fight with.

My SSA is just a tad heavier than my RRAs but just as smooth. It's light enough for precision work and heavy enough that I don't worry about an accidental discharge. Perfect ballance as far as I'm concerned.

Bill Springfield does great work and is very reasonably priced.

That is very true.  On both statements
The only problem with it is.  Who's Mil-Spec FCG is it.  Some seem to be thought of better and may perform better than others.  If I drank that Kool-Aid I'd buy Colt's. Then change the FCG.
I just know the direction I'm going, and it's GA.

Which do you prefer and why? I have only used GI, Chip McCormick, Jard, and JP trigger components.

This here
I sold of my adjustable Geisseles to get the SSAs and kept the change.

I'm interested to hear any reports on the new Wilson drop ins. According to Wilson Combat they're bomb proof. I'm thinking about getting one of their single stage units just for shits.

Anything is better than the shitty 3-rd. burst pack in most .mil rifles...the SSA is kick ass.  I will have Bill Springfield do a trigger for my next rifle as I prefer a single stage.

thats a smart decision.  I have had him do 3 triggers for me so far.  His work is AMAZING.  I consider it the best $35 addition to my rifles.
