So, I've heard that some companies and individuals are using lock tight to secure FS's/comps/brakes to the barrels of their AR's.  I know there are about 3000 different types of lock tight, but I thought it was more or less permanent when you used lock tight like that.  Doesn't it make the muzzle device almost impossible to get off?  Is there some specific type/grade of lock tight that people are using so as to not risk marring their barrels?

Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm relatively new to the world of building my own weapons.

Blue loctite is best if you plan to remove or change something.
Red loctite is best if you dont want something to move......ever.

Neither is absolutely permanent though.

Joe,

I'm sure there are other products out there, but I do know that Rocksett is used and provided by KAC to affix their QD flash hider to military rifles.  As far as I know, it's pretty much permanent.

Red locktight is softened with heat.  To take something off you would heat it with a soldering iron or torch.  The barrel would sure get hot enough that the locktight would not be doing much to keep it on.  I have never known of a flashhider to come loose, although no doubt somewhere it has happened, but I am saying just put it on and worry no more....   or  if you legally need permanently attached Locktight does not meet that standard.

I have used locktite 290 over the years to put on my flashhiders and have had 0 issues. I can remove with simple handtools and have always had to try and get them off but not over torque anything. They do come off easier after 2-3 30 round mags worth of ammo have gone down range

this has been my expirience with removing 3 and installing 3 various breaks and flash hiders, then removing 3 and installing the newer Smiths Vortex flash hiders. No problems no loose or stuck flash hiders or breaks.
