I am looking to get a pair of lower profile ear muffs. I have always just used foam ear plugs and between the .40 glock and the ar it starts to wear on my ears after a few 100 rounds. What are some decent muff for a man on a budget. I don't care for electronic muffs. Thanks

Goto wal-mart. They have some low-pro muffs for like 15 bucks.

I have a pair of these. They work great if you are one of the only people shooting.

Go electronic. By once cry once.

If you decide to go the non-electronic route, Peltor Shotgunners are pretty slim.

I have Peltor electronic muffs and they work great.  However, I typically use the Surefire Sonic Defenders.  They are awsome.

Harbor Freight sells electronic earmuffs. My brother has a couple of them and he likes them a lot.

If you're shooting outdoors check what you're buying. Some headsets aren't water proof. My Peltor 6-S caught some water and there's is rust on the battery contact points. They don't work much anymore. Quite the deception when you dish out $100+ on a "quality" set.

I tossed my muffs for a set of inexpensive "jelly" ear plugs and haven't looked back. They're rated at something like 26dBA of protection, which might not seem like a lot, but I find they cut out the sharp crack of the AR and leave me hearing fine and feeling comfortable after hundreds of rounds. No ringing or "temporary deafness". LOL. The main thing is, they don't get in the way and they stay in place (unlike foam plugs, which always seem to slowly wiggle their way out).

These things can be found anywhere for only a couple of bucks. Just get the kind that look and feel like they're made out of gummy bear candy and are tied together by a cord.

It's funny that you say that, because I just buy gummy bears, and stick them in my ears.

This, I just picked up a pair of the Sonic Defenders yesterday. I work in a high noise environment (Aviation) and wanted to give em a try.  So far I am very impressed. They are very comfortable. Left them in for the better part of my shift last night.
