Which would be better for general plinking and carbine courses, a BCM 14.5  perm A2 or a 16 middy? How much more dramatic  would the recoil impulse be on the carbine? Thanks guys!

I would go with a 16" middy. Either would be fine though.

since I have no regulation about it I have 2 14.5" M4s (one semi and one full) but if I was in the USA, if I had to go 16" i'd go middy since the longer the gas system is, the better it is.

I have the BCM 14.5 and 16" middy, can't notice a whole lot of difference recoil wise, both are great rifles

ii have a 16" carbine and a 16" middy and i tried to compare the 2 recoil wise once and the only difference i noticed was that the carbine and more or a quick jerky type recoil and the middy had a more smoother recoil....but its not really noticable unless you shoot em side by side....personally id go the mid length. the moveing parts in the gun will like you better and with the 16" you dont have to pin and weld it if you want to put a diff brake on it

Thanks for the replies guys! Would there be a difference in accuracy between the two? What kind can I expect from the BCM 14.5?

I like my 14.5" middy. It works great for plinking and carbine courses, as well as matches here and there. It's nice to have the softer recoil impulse of the middy too. You won't see a difference in accuracy between a 14.5 and 16.
