I’m in the process of buying my first AR-15.  But I’m stuck between the DPMS Panther Carbine  and Bushmaster A3 Patrolman Carbine. What do you guy think? Which one will be a good starter AR?

Bushmaster out of those two. Both are solid rifles, Bushmaster seems to have little a better reputation around here. I have one and love it.
Also, have you looked at Daniel Defense or BCM? They make excellent rifles at an affordable price. If I were buying a new rifle, thats where I'd go first.

Easy there...
There are a lot of options out there.  Both of those are descent weapons.  But you can do a lot better and not pay that much.  I would strongly suggest Bravo Company or Colt.  Bravo Company has excellent customer service.  If you have any questions you can fnd them in the Industry forum.

Welcome to the forum. I'd take the Bushmaster between the two you've chosen. If you have the option to get a hold of a complete lower instead of a complete rifle, do this and buy a complete BCM upper and BCG. You will spend just about the same money and have a top quality rifle.

I bought that very same Bushmaster less than a month ago for my first AR.  I've only put ~150 rounds through it so far and it worked like a champ.

Stag Arms.  Paid $740 out the door.  Over 3000 rounds of factory and reloads, and not one single malfunction yet.

Since this will be your Starter AR, try a CMMG "Bargain Bin", great deal for a basic M4.  Modify as you see fit with the money you saved.  I recommended this to 5 of my buddies in the last 3 weeks, all have purchased these, all were VERY happy.

Out of the two... Bushmaster. I have one. 4,000 rounds in 4 months, not one hiccup.

Same here.  Out of the two, I would go with the Bushy.

But for just a few more $$ you could get the Colt LE 6920 and be done with it!

I started my AR life with the Bushmaster M4 Patrolmans Carbine. It is a great gun and will serve you well.

It will be a great starter for BRD.

I have a bushmaster and a colt 6920. The bushmaster being 1/9, key holes 75 grain bullets at 100 yds.  Although quite a few people seem to be able to shoot them with no problems out of a 1/9, I definitely prefer the 1/7 twist of my colt  for heavier rounds.  Other than that my bushie has been a great rifle.  I think it would be worth a little more money to get a 1/7 twist barrel though.

Too expensive when you can get a Daniel Defense for $999 (with free $250 accessory card), a 6920 for $1100, or a BCM complete upper w/ spikes lower for $1000. All three are better guns for the same price.

My brothers Bushmaster is o.k. but when he started handling my Colt and my buddies Larue he went and bought a 6920 2 paychecks later. He still has the bushy. If you can spare a little extra get the Colt, DD or Bravo.

There's been quite a few selling them for that lately but here's the most recent. I've bought from him before and he was great to deal with:

Easy, the Bushmaster...

I've seen them as low as $850 new with one magazine... just do some searching.

Both my bushmaster M4s have run great, no issues.

the 1/9 twist will be a good choice should you buy a .22 conversion kit from spikes.
