| When I was in VN, the chromed Bolt and BCG were the last improvement to my M-16. I want to build a similar rifle, but I am told by Delton that chrome plated have been unavailable for the last 11 months. How importtant is chrome? Will another coating work as well? What suggestions do you have for me concerning the best bolt and BCG? |

Must not have been too important on the outside of the bolt carrier as the military went away from those bolts by the late 70s/early 80's. They are still chrome lined inside. |

Order from Young Manufacturing, great BCG, only 5 week wait.
Edit: HOT |
| Chromed bolt carriers went away because of cost. Chromed bolts went away because chroming methods of the day caused hydrogen embrittlement, which decreased the service life of the bolt. Its not an issue with todays methods. Ill take chrome anyday over park. It runs smoother with less lubrication, and increases reliability IMO. |

For which one? |

+1 The military don't use externally chromed BCG, only chrome lined inside bolt carriers now, I also remembered reading a military manual that chromed BCG are not supposed to be used in the front lines and are limited to support groups.
The standard BCG works just fine and I prefer them and had been using them for 30+ years without any problems, Colt, BCM, Daniel Defense or LMT (without MIM gas keys) are all pretty good brands, I use Colts and LMT. I do have one very rare LMT M16 auto BCG with a chromed bolt assembly and standard chrome lined inside carrier, it was a factory upgrade mistake which was only a batch made in 2005, I'm going to use it on one of my precision build project. If you really like chromed BCG go ahead, I have not heard any problems with current chromed BCG. |
| All Del Ton has in stock is phosphate coated bolt and BCG. The BCG is chrome lined. Either I take that or wait for some unknown time for chrome or Titanium plated. I ordered this kit 9Mar09 and now it has come down to this, either accept the phosphate coated or wait. So I'm tempted to go with the phosphate coated so I can start my build. |

Watch out for Young's they don't come staked. |

This is a service not a item, plase read before bidding!!!!
here is another option http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=142404383 Send me your Bolt carriers and have them made into chrome carriers, this is not a paint job!! and takes 3-4 hours to do, please allow 3 days before the turn around time to have it shipped back. here is sample pictures, super shiny! I wouldn't trust a gunbroker ad with punctuation like a Nigeran scam. Especially for a service that could make the guts of your AR brittle. Maybe to chrome a couple strippers for a pair of mudflaps, not a critical weapon part. |

Watch out for Young's they don't come staked. It's not hard to stake a BCG. |

Watch out for Young's they don't come staked. It seems any vendor that sells them, stakes them. Spikes, for instance. |
