I am looking at getting one of these and not sure how solid they are so what say ye are they GTG or should I stay away? What are the good and bad about them?

They are good, but you may  need to get the SAS UK lower like I had to in order to prevent wobble. MI is similar and cheaper and will still get the job done too.

The rail locks up very solid with the receiver.  The drawback is the big "hump back" on it that limits your optic mounting options.

Been using one since the SSS several years back. Rock solid but best with an aimpoint as that's what the "hump" is designed for.

What those guys said. I ran one for years. Good, thought system but it's really designed around using an aimpoint mounted on the hump. If you are okay with that then you will be happy with the system

I bought a used one recently specifically for mounting my Aimpoint H-1 on the hump and love it.

The lower section already has that on the RAS II.

Like the other said, Aimpoint on the hump or an ACOG fits nicely as well.

I had two guns with the system.  One with an Aimpoint and the other with the ACOG.  Kept them that way for years until just yesterday when I tore the ACOG gun apart to put in the Adams Arms piston system.  I had to repace the RAS II with a Daniel Defense free float to make it work.

They are very good solid rails.

Now that you ask, I can't remember. I swapped out the parts and put it in its current configuration right before I came back to Iraq from leave. I am pretty sure it does the lower 1/3 cowitness but again, not 100% sure.

ETA: Several people tried to talk me into getting the new URX but first off I didn't want to pay someone to install it. Second, the only Micro Aimpoint mount I half way like is the GGG one and I figured the RAS II would do just as good a job as adding a mount (which it does). I also think the RASII with a standard Aimpoint mounted in a low ring looks pretty hot as well.
