Greetings. I fired my CMMG w/14.5 barrel for the first time last weekend.
Afterward, I cleaned and lubed the barrel and BCG with CLP. Now the upper has a rattle. I removed the lower completely and the upper still has the rattle (same exact sound). The rattle occurs when I tilt the barrel to point up, then down, then up and down again. It is a very distinctive sound of something metal momentarily sliding or moving with gravity. My Bushmaster does not do this. I'm fairly sure the CMMG did not do this before I fired it. Is this normal or did I do something wrong? Thank you for any ideas. |

firing pin? I don't know what you mean. I know what a firing pin is, but do you mean I messed up the firing pin or that it is normal for the pin to do this? Okay, I pulled the BCG and the sound goes away. Can't duplicate the sound by tilting the BCG, though. Firing pin moves back and forth, but doesn't make the noise. Maybe it's the BCG moving a little? Maybe I need more lube on the BCG? Thanks for any opinions. |

did you put the cotter pin back in the BCG in after you cleaned the bolt? I dont have a gun on me to try it out right now, but without the cotter pin, something could be free to move around in the BCG. Hi. Good thought, but everything is installed correctly. I've been over it a few times. I see the firing pin moves back and forth a little, but I assume that's normal?? |

Take a finger & secure the bolt carrier so it wont move & then move your upper up & down again to see if you get the same sound. Sometimes the bcg will move back & forth inside the upper. This is the winner. Thanks. So I take it a little bolt carrier movement is normal? |

When the upper is not attached to the lower there is nothing to totally secure the carrier for no movement. |
