First post.. I have been cruising the post for a while now and finally came up with a question.  Why do companies sale separate forends for colt AR's.  I purchased a midwest Industries for my Colt AR-15A3 at a shop and did not realize there was a difference until i got to looking online for one to go on a Colt lightweight sporter 7.62 x 39. This got me to wondering if I even have the right one on my .223. Would it not fit if it was the wrong one? or would it go on and cause some accuracy problems? It seemed to go on fairly easy but i don't want to keep it on if its gonna screw something up. Thanks jmw

I would think if they went on, then you got the right ones.

My problem is that i have not purchased the second one yet and I don't have the packaging anymore from the first to see which one i bought.

Does anybody know what is different in a Colt AR than other brands that would require you to buy a different fore-end?

MI is the only brand I have see that has this.  I can't find any different "Colt Specific" forearms from LaRue, Daniel Defense or Troy.

ETA - A phonecall or email to MI would probably be the best bet to get your question answered.

I think it has something to do with the hand guard cap behind the FSB.

I have KAC M4 RAS on all three of my Colts and they seem to fit fine.

Thank you all...Looks like its time to upgrade from MI to Troy's or Daniel Defense. I am going to shoot MI an email just to find out why though.

because a long time ago,   the 6721 had an odd for the time HBAR profile. and all rails where meant for  gov profile.

old KAC  books from   years ago warn about  maybe not fitting on  colt HBAR carbines.

but most the time they fit anyway
