I have read that the newer produced Colt 6920s are preferred due to having the smaller pins.  Is there a way to determine which Colt it is (pin size) by the serial number or manufacturers date?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Colt began transitioning to .154" pin in the late 4x,xxx serial number range. The earliest verified I know of is in the 48,xxx range which is I believe the also the earliest 6940s.

Anything post 60,xxx should be safe, and probably much earlier.

The serial number of the rifle is 605xx.  It appears this is a newer version.

You are fine, then.
