Nice! I made up 2 GI M4 clones using SBRed Colt 6400c lower receivers and 6921 14.5" uppers, so I sorta rolled my own

Man, I like your setups. I've been thinking about picking up an ACOG. I've always been an Aimpoint type of guy.

Those are next on my list.  I hope they have already released some with the small pin lowers like the recent 6920s.  It seems that while 6920 prices are at an all time low (1100, or even less) 6921s are still selling for a bit of a premium.

Gotta love the USGI look.  Simple and very effective. Combat tested.   Colt 6921 upper on 6920 lower...with all kinds of coolness attached.

To Stampman, Jcrowl, CV67 and others: Is there a big difference to you in handling between the 14.5" 6921 and the 16" 6920? My training and defensive carbines are built around the 16" 6920 with Comp M2, Surefire M500A, and Troy BUIS. For consistency of controls I don't stray very far from this basic pattern.

Is losing the 1.5" inches worth the effort for a civilian like me, or am I better off sticking with what I know?

Here is a typical "cookie cutter" defensive/class carbine from my collection. I have several of them that are almost identical, aside from minor details:

Thanks in advance for your help

I like SBR's. IMHO there was a big difference in the way the Colt 6920 and the 6921 felt. I owned both.
When i picked the 6921 up from my FFL/SOT I brought it home and compaired it with the 6920. I ended up trading off the 6920 for a KAC SR-15 M5.
14.5" is also the correct lenght for the M4. The only reason they make the 16" is thats the law.
Is it worth it? HHHHUUUMMMMMM....I like anything that requires the $200 tax stamp. BUT, that's just me.
Now for the word that NEVER belongs in the same sentence as "gun" and thats "need".
I guess if you are kincking in doors in baghdad, a memberr of a SWAT team executing a drug bust or a hardcore 3 gunner or carbine course runner then the "need" for the 14.5" or shorter guns is there. Other then that the 6920 16" guns are just fine.
I
Nice setup by the way.

The 14.5" just feels handier and more compact and looks better than that 16" barrel with M203 cutout. my personal preference. I've noticed no difference in the way they shoot. For a 16", I much prefer a middy.

What he said.  I can tell a big diff between my 6920 and 6921 upper....in the handling aspects.  Ballistics wise...I can't tell a diff.

The $200 is worth not having anything permed to the barrel.  Plus since it's an SBR you could run an 11.5" upper on it sometimes too.

Thanks for the input guys-I certainly appreciate it

That's what I was thinking as well Mark. I'll be damned if I'm going to have a FH permanently welded onto a barrel. I've been experimenting with a few different muzzle devices (Vortex and Phantom hiders, Miculek brakes etc) and I enjoy the ability to swap them out on a whim.

In Michigan, SBRs are prohibited, so I have to pin the FH. I need to move to a SBR state.
