I was wondering if there are any disadvangtages to leaving my ar stored for extended periods of time with the buffer spring compressed?  If so is there an upgraded spring that would handle this. Its on a colt 6920.

Like all springs it won't wear out just by being compressed for a long time.  It's movement that wears out springs.  I leave my AR stored with the bolt open (buffer spring compressed) and a block inserted.  It's a fairly old gun and still going strong on the original buffer spring.

LOVE IT....just read a thread asking how long til the mags springs give when leaving them loaded, but at least on this thread its a bit orginal being a buffer spring.  B/t here where i spend the vast majority of my surfing time and RFC and M4carbine i get tickled pink everytime i see these " when will my rested spring finally lose its properties", now i just subscribe to this thread and wait for the wolves......

P.S. I am in no way putting your spring ? because at least half the firearms owners apparently believe springs go dead while resting. And i can almost promise this is a top 3 ?  in any gun forums out there.

Its getting to be at the place where this evolves to something like.....which came first..chicken or egg, or tree goes does in forest but nowhere was ard. to hear it fall, did it really fall?
