I need a new trigger for my AR...I have the RRA 24" Bull Varmint upper with a DPMS standard A2 stock lower.
The mil spec trigger while being OK for a regular trigger, needs upgrading bad. This is a target gun, hope to get some Prairie Dogs and Coyotes soon as well. Here's the deal, I have spent way too much on AR stuff and only want to spend as little as possible. If spending 150 gets me a much better trigger than $100 then i will spend it but I don't want to spend the $150 for a marginally better trigger. Is the standard RRA 2 stage good for $100 or would it be better to go with a Jard / JP Enterprise trigger for a little more? I would appreciate any feedback. |

Get a Bill Springfield trigger job done. One week turnaround. $35 you won't regret spending. Search here for Bill Springfield and you'll find lots of posts about his work and happy customers. http://triggerwork.net/ar15s.html |

A lot of it depends on what you want to do with the rifle. I put an RRA 2-stage in a couple of rifles, and they're very nice for general shooting - quite clean and crisp.
However, if I were doing actual target/varmint work, and didn't need to meet "service rifle" criteria, I'd look for something lighter in pull, or at least have it worked on. It all depends on whether you're looking for something measured in pounds or in ounces. Since you have a "varmint-ish" setup, I could see it going either way. |

Thanks for the info. I may have to check out Bill Springfield... that sounds perfect.... Worst case scenario its not light enough for me and I install it on one of my 3 other AR's that need trigger upgrades.
The RRA 2 stage is $100 and the JP is about $135 and is single stage. Since the JP is adjustable I am leaning towards that... I don't know though.. Timney triggers are nice but I can't afford that right now and I personally would not pay extra for a skeletonized trigger. |

I don't think you would go wrong with either Bill Springfield or the JP set up. I've had a couple of Rock Rivers also. The only complaint I have with them is they tend to "loosen up" after a few hundred rounds or at least that was my experience. I have two of the JP's with their Speed Hammer set up. They are very nice triggers. They can be a little time consuming to get everything just right particularly if you need to adjust the safety selector (grinding the trigger bar) and time the disconnecter (grinding the disconnecter tip). Not all JP's will require the whole 9 yards. Some fit certain receivers better than others. That said, I believe that Bill will give you a comparable trigger for a lot less change. I've taken a look at his work and talked with him via email. He's given me the confidence to do my own triggers. The JP's may end up costing more than the $135 you mentioned should you end up needing a Speed Hammer due to light strikes. Like I said the JP's are very nice triggers but now that I've done a fair number of triggers myself, I probably wouldn't tell you to spend the money on a JP unless it were truly a target rifle and you were looking for a sub 3 lb. pull. |

I have a Timney 3lb. trigger on my Stag/WOA and am very happy with it. But when I got my LaRue, I put a Geiselle SSA on it and that is the best trigger I've ever used... Yeah i would love a Geiselle but due to funds these guys have me convinced on Springfield... The question is how many of my triggers do I send him?? 3 lbs seems like it might be a tad light for my 6.8 SPC Carbine for deer hunting. I have heard a few more pounds is typically recommended for large game hunting rifle. |
