I asked the same question a while ago when I noticed it on mine and it seems like a lot of other people have it to. Here's the thread:

i have seen dozens of threads with pictures of colts shitty finish or tooling marks. ill pass on the kool aid thanks Because the finish and tooling marks really affect the performance of the gun, right? ETA- I wish people would do a search before starting new threads that ALWAYS turn into a shit storm. It's getting old

I see your rifle has the MIM mag catch. It's not MIM, it's been proven to you to not be MIM, and you are a dishonest person by continuing to spread this crap. what is "MIM?' Metal injection molding, a cheaper way to make certain parts vs extrusions, forgings etc. My understanding is that that part is extruded, not MIM. |

* * The individuals who don't like "the koolaid / Colt" are using every attempt in justifying buying a shitty 2nd rate weapon because buying a quality weapon is out of their price range, therefore they nitpick at every possible thing...jealousy is a b!tch. These are the same people who owned gobots instead of transformers as kids thinking they were just as cool...

No? I'll stick to Colt and other quality makers, thanks. |

The Colt plant is shut down until 8/3/09, so I have to wait to talk to Jorge then. All thats been said on this site regarding the mysterious marks on the mag catch is that a few fan boys say they are not MIM parts. That is not proof, just opinion. Perhaps a Colt rep can chime in before 8/3/09 and settle the confusion for all of us. |

You can go back a year and I don't think there would be more than 2 maximum. I can do a search on you and there will be at least 10 Colt threads, probably more. Also you continue to spread a lie about Colt using a MIM bolt catch. |

You've already been proven to be a liar. And, as always, my standard disclaimer: I don't own any Colt rifles or parts at the moment. |
What the heck is going on with this thread. The OP simply asked a question about a Colt rollmark, and this thread has been changed from a MIM to trolling. I was actually interested in some legitimate feedback on this, but I guess we will have to wait until the arguments are over.

This one The other thread about the "crop circles" The "my colts receiver is horrible" thread. I think they were all active in the last week or so. You may need to work on your searching ability. |

It's Baptism by Fire. Some on here feel superior, if they can jump on a new person. Kinda makes them feel big. Kinda like the first time you walk into a gun store and the person behind the counter treats you like you are a dumb ass. If you hang around here long enough, you will learn to ignore it. Oh, and you are "never" to question a Colt. |

I agree that it is a tool mark, it doesnt affect anything
still, I feel that anyone who gets a gun with marks like that from the factory should have the option to get one without flaws, if they want colt, dmps, cmmg, stag whatever, you should not expect to have to accept something new with a flaw. I also dont think you can call a 6920 a highend gun, especially at todays prices solid, well built, well tested from a great name, yes awesome to own, yes a great value for below $1200, yes but I would say standard, not high end thats how I feel |

Comment was for the bickering between the Colt "fanboys" and the "haters"... not the OP |

Wow! Sorry guys, didn't mean to start a small scale war here. I know it doesn't affect performance and I love the gun regardless, I just was curious to see if anyone knew anything about it. It appeared to me to be some sort of side affect from a tool or clamp as well, just was wondering if anyone else had seen it.
I read the other threads too, I guess it's fairly common. No big deal, like someone else said, call it a "birthmark." And for the record, I've had poor luck with the search function here, and the fact that it makes you wait 60 seconds in between searches is incredibly aggravating. So sometimes I think asking a question, getting a quick answer and letting the thread wash away and die a natural death works just fine and doesn't harm anyone! |

* * * So Colt products are good because "the cool kids" have them? That's some interesting logic there... |
|
Quoted: To answer the original question - they are probably marks from some fixtures that are used to hold the parts during manufacture. Huh, does look like the rubber cap on a clamp or something... ![]() edit I'm getting tired of the bickering in every thread where someone has a question about the finish on a Colt (or whatver firearm someone else is in love with). ![]() |
