These are made for use in Ca. where it is illegal to have a removable magazine (without the use of a tool) on AR or the like rifles.

So these aren't safety locks then? These just lock the mags into the rifle but the rifle is still completely functional?

Yep, designed for the state of Ca where it is illegal to do pretty much anything to an AR! As a result of the "North Hollywood shootout" in 1998 I do believe. It actually is interesting to hear the whole story behind this shooting, and I actually think that the laws that they put into effect as a result of it were to cover their own asses. A quick summary is basically this, two guys meet in a gym, they both like lifting, guns, similar stuff and they start hanging out. In 1993 they get pulled over for speeding or something stupid and the cops discover a bunch of AR's, AK's, handguns, home made explosives, shit loads of ammo, the whole 9yds. They get arrested for conspiracy, neither of them serve more then 90 days in jail and upon release they are given all of their weapons back minus the ammo and explosives. In '98 they start robbing armored vehicles and decide one last big hit, the bank in North Hollywood. Turns out when they put their plan into action a cop just happens to be getting coffee across the street and sees them going into the bank with weapons drawn and their home made body armor. It ends up in a shootout, one guy takes his own life the other dies on scene from gunshot wounds shortly later. These two guys obviously had an extensive knowledge of weapons and they made their AR's automatics and because they had so many magazines and so much ammo that the state decided to put some laws into motion reguarding "assault weapons". So now AR's can't have what they call "evil features".

IMO, I think that if they weren't so stupid in the first place and didn't give them back all of their weapons that they were going to use to commit said crime then maybe this wouldn't have happened. Just my 2 cents, I may very well be wrong but believe it or not I have been before! Now with that said, WOW  I glad that when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, I almost bought a house and stayed out there, am I GLAD we changed our minds about that one!

That is correct, keeps you from making quick changes of magazines.

Thats a pretty good idea. Factory installed it could make new rifles eleigible for sale in CA. Plus it looks like a standard mag release can be fitted when the owner gets smart and leaves CA or SHTF.

Combined with a magazine having a follower that would prevent retraction of the bolt, it would be a decent safety device.

The nice thing about the RadLock is that a couple of quick turns of the inner screw with a small screwdriver and the mag release functions normally.  This is a good thing for those of us that live in CA.

You can move to CA anytime you want and help us deal with the politics and gun laws here.

This is great.  I'm glad that you and your attitude went back to PA.  Do you really think we like the situation here?

Talk about a chip on your shoulder. The guy didn't say anything about the political situation in CA. Relax.

He is simply saying that if a magazine follower was designed to stop the bolt from moving rearward, it would render the weapon inoperable. Which, for someone with kids in ANY state, might be a good idea.

Don't get me wrong Russ, I loved it out there in Cali, however there are some political issues going on there that just punishes everyone, and it just isn't right. I really do feel bad for you guys, and don't really see what the thought process behind these laws that were made is. I mean they tell you that you need to have an attached magazine or one that requires a tool to release, I mean if your going to go and commit a crime such as robbing a bank I don't think that you are going to be concerned with the fact that you have a 30rd mag and no bullet button. There are basically two types of people, those that know that there are certain things that are illegal(like killing, robbing banks, etc..) and they don't do it, and those that also know that these acts are illegal but don't care and do it anyways. So the way I look at it is that by making certain types of AR's illegal and making all of these stipulations, they accomplish absolutely nothing, and that is all I was trying to say. Like I said it was the state of Ca trying to correct the mistake that they made 5 yrs earlier, and all they did is punished all of the people who are law abiding citizens because the ones that are going to commit these crimes aren't going to make sure that they don't have any "evil feature" on their AR! That is all I was trying to say and I apologize if I offended you.
