Hello,

Is there any trick to removing a stock float tube from a DPMS Upper with a 16" Stainless bull barrel? Thanks!!

let me be more specific. :D I have a friend trying to remove the float tube and he isn't able to turn the float tube.

It should unscrew correct? If so how hard is it to turn and is there locktite or anything else involved?

Thanks again. :D

Tell him to remove the gas tube and gas block, it makes it a lot easier.

I've only messed with a couple of rifles with float tubes.

Mine unscrew (the tube unscrews from the "nut" that attaches the barrel to the upper receiver) and if your's won't by hand why not try one of those "strap" wrenches.  That won't mark/scratch the float tube but should get a good grip on it.

The base of the float tube is a "nut" that screws onto the upper receiver and they make a special wrench for that with pins that stick down and fit into the holes in the free float tube nut so you can unscrew it from the barrel (if you're replacing it.)  If you just want the tube itself off then try the strap wrench - you can get them with a heavy duty rubber strap that grabs real good.

Good luck with it.

Float tube? I thought he was working on an old swamp cooler, or maybe a Rochester carburetor.

Tried the strap wrench. No good

It really shouldn't be this tough should it?
