| If I'm only gonna regularly shoot to 200 yds with iron sights is a free floated front handguard worth an extra $100 ? |
| I may use this gun for some hi power matches, so tight in a sling yes. However I am not going all out on the barrel, just a 20" government profile CL 1/7. Yes I know an SS HB is more common for hi power matches, however I want my gun to be a battle rifle first and a hi power match gun second. |

It's really one of those "to each his own" kinda thing. I like the rigidity and the theoretical accuracy gain. I also really like the isolation from the barrels heat.(assuming you get a modern design with big wide-open holes between the rails.)
They do have their downsides. They are a little more expensive, and they can be a bit more involved to install/remove. But I look at it like this: If I'm going to use an aluminum railed handguard, I'm going free-float. If using a full-on railed handguard really isn't needed for this particular rifle, then I'll save my money and just use a plastic guard with a little bolt-on section of rail for a light or whatever. That'll be more money left over to spend on getting my rifle smoking hot.
