This is my first AR build. Have grown up hunting and shooting but haven't been doing much of it over the past ten years or so due to responsibilities. Decided to get back into it and what better way than to build an AR. Started planning about 2 years ago and started the build shortly before the election. As you all know part shortages made it take a while but I finally got it completed. Still needs some minor work (KNS pins, Springfield trigger job, rail covers, and a mount for my Millet DM) but for the most part it is complete.

Specs:

SPIKES tactical lower
RRA LPK
Magpul UBR
Magpul PMAGS
Hogue grip
Les Baer Ultimate .223 complete upper (16inch, 1:9, medium heavy free floated, chrome BCG with match bolt, and quad rail handguard). I know there is much controversy abut Les Baer but I found the price for the complete upper to be somewhat reasonable compared to top tier mfrs. Hell, was going to build the entire upper myself but the LB was only around $75 more and comes with a lifetime 1/2 MOA guarantee.

Thoughts??

ETA: Anybody know what happened to the pics?? They were there before I added my jibber jabber. Now all I gots is links. Sorry, still trying to figure this out.

Very nice!

How do you like the UBR, and what direction do you think you're going to go in for optics and/or iron sights? How do you like the Millet?

ETA: You broke your image tags with your edit. They were showing up fine a minute ago.

ETAA: You need to add a bracket "[" (without the quotes) to the front of your first picture link. Then remove the orphan quotation marks at the end of the pic links.

Thanks for the pic posting info and help. Much appreciated.

Right now I have a Millet DM but am waiting on the mount to ship. I am thinking of it as a 'holdover' as I ran out of money. Also can't decide exactly what I want to use it for. Have decided I will probably upgrade to 3X-9x 40m at some point. The 1-4 of the DM just isn't quite enough magnification for me.

As for the UBR. LOVE it. Got it at a fair price on the EE. The weight balances out the barrel perfectly. Sure, it was a little weighty at 1.8 but the overall build is still light enough to shoot offhand. Thing is rock solid too.

The Millet seems like an excellent scope for the cash ($200). Only complaints are the 'fungus' that only really shows up if you set the illumination to its highest setting and keep the front lens cap closed. A bit of ghosting with the illumination all the way up too but hardly worth mentioning. I can say that I don't care for the adjustments. They don't 'click' like other scopes. Of course, I am nitpicking as I come from a varmint rifle/scope background and am used to positive click turrets.

Thanks!

I had saved a nice chunk of cash to build it and was very picky about what parts I wanted. Part of the reason it took me better part of a year to get it all together. LB fits the upper to the lower and the thing is TIGHT. No slosh whatsoever. Only thing I would have done differently is maybe use a Mega lower but at the time they were impossible to find.

Well, it looks like you did a helluva nice job, and I reckon the results were worth the wait. I agree that you typically don't see a high-end precision rig as a first time build. Very very impressive

Well thank you kindly.

Owe it all to forum lurking. When I started the only thing I new about AR's was that they were black, usually.

Now that I am afflicted there is nothing to do but feed the addiction. Already planning my next build. Either a USMC SAM-R clone or 6.5 Grendel dedicated long range rifle. Hell, BOTH!

Now you're talkin!!

You'd better make room in your safe, gun locker, or closet-these things multiply like rabbits. Building your own in particular is more addictive than crack.

The thing is, one day you'll find yourself with a bolt carrier group or a lower parts kit laying around. Before you know it, those innocuous little parts grow themselves into a brand new rifle. It's just like magic.

You'll see

Oh, my.

I didn't clarify. Added that photo after everything else.

As much as I would like to claim credit for the groups I did not shoot that. Once LBC fits the lower to the upper they fire two 5 shot groups to prove the 1/2 MOA guarantee. The other group is on the folded piece of paper but it is pretty much the same size.

I was fairly decent once, will take a lot of work to get THAT good though.

My apologies, kind of embarrassing.

No, No... My apologies! I'm still asleep and didn't comprehend your post completely when I first read it. I assumed you already had a scope and mounts and it just wasn't in the pics!
