My buddy and I were firing his CMMG .22 LR kit for the first time today. Last night he said he installed a magpul MIAD pistol grip, but other than that the rifle is completely stock. His rifle has run flawlessly with .223/5.56 in the past, but we weren't brave enough to try it after the incident. We loaded up 5 of the CMMG .22 mags and started pumping rounds through it. Roughly midway through the third mag it did a two round burst. It took us both massively by surprise. He said since we were rapid firing it might have just cycled the bolt to fast or something. He start shooting slowly through another mag, and towards the end of the mag it did a three round burst. He's scared shitless, and said he isn't taking the gun out of the safe. Is it the bolt, or what? Help ARFCOM.

OMG you have a non register machine gun...Hide your dog.

All seriousness, there a guy doing time because his AR Slam fired.  I would be care full on who you tell or even posting it. I would take it to a smith an have them fix it ASAP.

The disconnector isn't catching the hammer properly, allowing a slam-fire.

Can that be fixed with the existing parts, or does it require a new disconnecter?

Contact CMMG i've heard of the 22 conversions doing that with certain ammo coupled with the recoil spring on the 22 conversion.

I may be wrong about the following so talk to cmmg.........

IIRC the person i read about this happening to was using cci minimags and the recoil spring in the 22 conversion was to strong to let the hammer catch the disconector.

You are not the only one to have that happen. I think there was a bad batch off parts or something.

Just out of curiosity... What type / brand of hammer is in the lower receiver? (Some hammers are cut differently and therefore have minutely different operating weight values, ect.)

Also be sure the firing pin is not sticking in a forward position inside the bolt... That is, make sure it floats freely for the full range of it's travel from "below" or flush against the bolt face, to protruding out away from the bolt face...(if the firing pin does not seat fully, it can cause it's own "Slam-fire" effect as the bolt closes.)
