I've been thinking of going from a Mini 14 to a AR and I was looking for some help in picking out a reasonable priced that I can upgrade parts as I get the funds too. I was looking at the M4 that AIM sells. Any thoughts on them? How do they feed with steel cased ammo? Thanks guys.

Which one are you talking about on AIM's site?  Are you talking about the Bushmaster M4 or the Daniel Defense M4?

AIMSURPLUS: new long guns

Either would be an awesome choice and should be able to shoot Wolf with no problem.

Personally, I'd take the Daniel Defense due to its extra features, but I've had Bushmasters in the past and you sholuld be GTG, either way.

Welcome to the site, BTW.  Have you checked out the Virginia Home Team Forum yet?

You'll be happy with either. The Bushy will let you upgrade as you like for a little less money, but the DD has some great features built in. I love my Bushies, so IMHO, that's the way I'd go. Don't wait long, as the Bushy is at a great price and they'll go quickly.

I'd go with the Bushmaster.

Sorry I was refering to the Bushmaster not the DD. Looking to start of cheap, but the whole assembly, and to do the upgrades as money allows. I'm using Brown Bear and have a good stockpile and want something that will feed it like the Mini. Thanks for the link to the Va page I hadn't seen it yet.

If your budget is tight JSE Surplus has a bunch of DPMS Sporticals in stock for $700 and a DPMS Panther Lite in stock for $715. They are not DD's but it's a foot in the door for a good price.

Don't know if you're in NOVA or not, but if you don't order that Bushy before they sell out, check out Virginia Arms in Manassas.  Great place.  Extremely professional & helpful –– not your typical gunshop.  Heck, even if you do get the Bushy from AIM, Virginia Arms can transfer it to you for only $20.

Good luck.

Anyone using a DPMS Sportical with Brown Bear steel casings? Decent accuracy at 150 yards?  And they don't say but at that price the scope can't be incuded, right? Thanks for the help guys. You probably get someone like me on a weekly basis. Oh, and I'm outside of Charlottesville.

LMT
COLT
NOVESKE are my top 3

S&W newer models I HEAR are GTG by Pat Rogers

My 2 bushmaster ate wolf like a champ
never any problems

I would look into buying a Quality upper ONLY

Then buy a Cheap Quality lower

If you're asking about Brown Bear or any other steel-cased ammo, it's problematic and a roll of the dice. While many Bushy owners shoot Wolf, etc...., reliably, some have reported problems with extractors or short-stroking or other issues. I don't shoot any steel-cased, so I don't have any first-hand knowledge, but that's what I've read. Don't recall any comments about DD.

If you look in the ammo forum and the tacked threads regarding specific brands, you may find what your looking for.

The reports could be anything from a bad Builds to running heavy buffers etc!

A Quality M4/Carbine/Rifle  will run WOLF just like any brasss

Heres the list

A1 Bushmaster 20inch HBAR
A1 bushmaster Carbine 14.7hbar   ( cut by Kurt in 2001 )
LMT defender 2000 M4 14.5
Home Build LMT M4 14.6 w/ bushy lower

all run wolf steel case

I wouldnt own a AR that couldnt feed Wolf ammo

Unless its a Match type Rifle

Good info for me and I hope the OP. As I wrote, I've never shot any steel-cased, but had actually bought 300 rounds of Wolf 55gr. FMJ and was planning on running it through a couple of Bushies and a Frankengun this weekend.
