that does look thick. Could be just a heavy spring. What brand?

My VLTOR had a very  very strong coil spring I switch it out with another I order from B.C.
and use the VLTOR coil as a spare

Now I do like running a heavy buffer like RRA 9mm

RRA makes 2 types of 9mm buffers

Theres the H3 buffer also but cost more

Springco makes a couple different ones.  Their carbine one has more coils and is longer than a standard spring.  This can help reduce recoil on carbine length gas systems and SBRs.  Not really necessary in midlengths, and it could cause FTE issues.  Their STD spring is good for midlengths.

What kind of stock do you have on it, collapsible or one of those non-pistol grip stocks?

If it's collapsible, you'll be fine.  If it's the latter, it was may a good idea to check out the California hometown forum.  They should know how to set up those other stocks.
